Painting Light on Landscapes

Light is a special element of art that is so intriguing, its been scary for me to experiment with it. Alas, long story short, I'm trying. Granted, it will be a while before I can paint (if ever) like Frederic Church. Still, with brush in hand, I suspect the experience will be as illuminating (eventually) to my artistic brain as viewing his painting.

In Wikiart.org the painting style is listed as Luminism, an American Art Style, 1850-1870. Do you know any luminists?

I do try to take photographs with dappled light as it is one of my favorite styles of painting. I found luminism while searching online for dappled, and ending up in Images in Wikiart.org. (Reading more about art is on my New Years want to do more of list.) The painting of Dead Creek cornfield in winter is my first real effort to set mood with light.

I added the fence and details to "Winter at Dead Creek." (See before version on Blog break Going Well.)The morning fog looks nice in the photo, but on canvas, I think I over did it. I might push the fog back into the distance. Paintings need to rest before the final decision.
