Field Puddles
Field Puddles |
The problem with field puddles is the evaporation before the ice becomes thick enough to hold. The thinner the space between water level and mud, the better. Skates are optional. I slid on the ice with my boots on, and at times managed a semi twirl before I fell. I think, in my old age, if I ever find myself walking in a field with a frozen puddle, I might try to quick run and slide...scrunched down like a bundle of wool gliding across a memory.
How I used to love slipping and sliding around on the ice. I'm sorry now that I never learned to skate. I'm not sure I'd risk it now.
ReplyDeleteHello Jenny,
DeleteI loved reading your recent post about Belfast. The murals, and City Hall staircase marble are fantastic.
Love your memories and beautiful writing. I must admit I have never thought of field puddles before, but now I will look for them. I used to ice skate. I could even skate backwards! Could never manage roller skating though. I'll just stick to walking now....:)
ReplyDeleteHello Debra,
DeleteYour new blog make over is beautiful! Very welcoming
Now roller skating is something I could do. Ice skating not so much, but it was fun trying.
I've seen them in the countryside as well growing up.
ReplyDeleteI never did learn how to skate.
Hello William,
DeleteSkates with two blades are nice. Sleds are even better. :)
I can remember breaking up frozen puddles with my boots as a kid. Loved that.
ReplyDeleteHello Tabor,
DeleteYes! That is fun to break puddle ice.
The puddles here are almost lakes we have had so much rain. I was raised in the city and there were no field puddles but I have LOTS of other memories of sliding on ice and falling through crusted snow.

Hello Carol,
DeleteIt snowed last night, little pellet type snow. I'm not ready for such weather.
Have a wonderful week-end!
What happy memories you have of ice puddles. I wish I could say the same but is puddles don't exist here.
ReplyDeleteHello Loree,
DeleteThere's probably something that's a fun childhood memory where you are that we don't have here. Warmer weather for one. :)
Thank you for sharing such lovely memories.....sliding on the ice and snow is such a fun part of childhood...now I try to avoid it but I still like crunching through icy puddles! xox
ReplyDeleteHello Helen,
DeleteLove your Nordic designs!
