Reflection Monday October 2018
Events in the news, movements, fads, things all viral appear to sweep a broad stroke over the World in ways that cause many to stop and think, others to react, and many to demonstrate. The #MeToo movement does a tremendous good. I am very grateful in many ways.
Yet, there is a side of that important issue that appears as if anyone that speaks up is Truth to be held above all else while the accused is guilty without due process. One reputation is untouchable/dare anyone to question the validity, while the other is destroyed.
Reflect on this tough and thorny question
What Price is Perfection?
Maywyn your squirrel photo immediately made me smile. I think this one deserves being painted. Hope you have a lovely week friend. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteHi Debbie,
DeleteYour post about apples has me wanting to bake.
Hugs!
Oh what a cute squirrel.
ReplyDeleteHi Loree, A cute photo can on a bad day can bring smiles.
DeleteA difficult dilemma.
ReplyDeleteHi William, Yes and especially for men as well being given a wide brush of guilt on the words of one.
DeleteI have a story I told. And another that I never did. Memories are vivid. How did I get there, I could not say for sure. How did I get home..again who remembers that. I really don't have much sympathy for these guys that are accused. With the case in questions, read what some of the inferences in his year book REALLY mean and see if you find him to be a truthful person. He may not be guilty of the accusations, but her has lied to the Committee and to a prior Committee. Those are facts. He is not judge material.
ReplyDeleteHi Carol, Sorry you experienced that horror.
DeleteFact is Both sides have an EQUAL right to tell their facts. Instead, a woman today is held to be the truth just on her word alone. That is a dangerous path to take. It is as dangerous as the past when women were not believed, dismissed as unreliable, and made out to be sluts in the courtroom if they dared even tell their story.
I remember how I got home. Not everyone, woman or man remembers every detail. Dare I say, not every drunken creep has a stellar memory.
As time goes on details can get blurred, transformed, and lost. It is important to have a clear mind to consider both sides even when our hearts leap to see guilty for the abuser.
Read the comments with interest and your response to Carol is so true. How could anyone be expected to remember exact details from something that happened all that long ago....of course the trauma would stick with you forever, but the fine details of what surrounded it would be clouded with time.
ReplyDeleteWomen traditionally have been the underdogs when it comes to reporting sexual abuse and it is understandable why most try to bury what happened and not come forward to demand justice when they face ridicule (and seemingly death threats directed towards them and their families) and disbelief and an attitude of deserving what you get simply because you're a woman. Having said that, there is the fact that being innocent until proven guilty is falling by the wayside in the court of public opinion.
A thoughtful post, thank you
DeleteBased on my experiences...An issue is survivors comparing their experiences to those of others can create an unclear picture. A first assault may be more traumatic, a shock than assaults that happen after the first. Thus, more memory loss as the mind goes into protect mode. A person doing the assault in a drunken state might experience a type of shock if what he did goes against their core beliefs. Another problem is context as in comparing social eras. Behavior accepted then at one level, joked about, praised in some respects, compared to today requires, I believe, to be considered in context.
I feel there are unmatched pieces with both Ford and Kavanaugh.
