Lagging Starts

Posting once a week doesn't seem to have started yet.

The resolution I have made to exercise outdoors as least once a week also seems to be lagging in a start. The second walk in as many days, was much shorter due to biting cold. Gloves, a thicker scarf, and a warm hat are a must when the temperature outdoors is below freezing. Add walking at a good clip, there is a wind chill factor to consider. The exercise bike is the better option when it is frigid outside.

Walking at a different location is on my agenda. Easy short walks are the rule due to my bad knees. As long as it isn't windy, I like walking when snow is falling.

Do you have an exercise routine?

  1. A short walk is better than no walk. Yes, I walk year round almost daily, except for ice and extreme heat. Different lengths depending on weather.

  2. Liz,
The short walk yesterday was a sensory blast. As I hurried back to my vehicle, I was amazed by how fast I was walking, a look at you go thing.

  6. I try to walk every day - 10,000 steps. It's easiest to do outdoors since I don't have any exercise equipment at home. Some days it's very hard to get outside, and I do walk faster if it's cold. I've been using some Youtube videos for exercise, too, and really enjoy them. I can choose long or short ones. Someone I follow is Lucy Wyndham-Read from the UK.

  7. Carol,
Thank you, meditation is a good idea. In marshall arts we meditated before every session.

  8. William,
    Swimming is excellent exercise.

    Graham,
Back on track is a delicate manuever for the mind after the holidays. Easy as it goes.

    Lorrie,
The idea of 10,000 sounds good.
On the exercise bike, I imagine I'm traveling along local roads.
I will check out the UK videos.

  10. Rue,
A half hour is a good target.
Physical therapist told me years ago, 30 minutes, 2 miles.

  11. I don't have an exercise routine, but we had to take my son's car in the shop this week, so we did a lot of walking in town while we were waiting, and I was surprised how well I did walking so far on the slushy rainy roads. I think that's nice that you like walking when the snow is falling. Something I've never done before. I imagine it's pretty cold to take a walk in your area right now.

  12. Thankfully, the mill apts where we reside, has a gym and also an indoor pool, so when it’s cold or nasty outdoors, there is someplace to exercise. I have been using the treadmill and elliptical equipment while listening to podcasts and audiobooks. Walking outdoors is preferable because there’s more to see than brick walls, but being dry and warm is a big plus now.

  13. I go to a class on Mondays and the gym on THursdays. At least that's the plan but didn't happen today!

  14. Beatrice,
    An indoor pool sounds wonderful.
Dry and warm is even better.

    Liz,
Outside of home exercise, I believe, enhances the benefits.

  15. Sheri,
When it is below freezing, the cold awfully uncomfortable. Fibromyalgia is not winter friendly, but it is not the boss of me.

  16. I love to walk. We have fitbits, so tracking our walking is easy. I am glad the weather has been milder-but rainy-still walking even in light rain.

  17. Debra,
    Glad y'all are out walking
A light drizzle is as good as snow falling. It feels almost like having a facial.

  18. Oh Maywyn as you well know I have two pooches that need a regular walk daily. We generally do three miles but when it is extremely cold do cut back a bit. Take care and be sure to bundle up. God Bless!!

  19. I SHOULD have an exercise routine. Right now it seems to be carrying Lizzie down to her litterbox several times a day (because sometimes she just doesn't do her thing!) and carting down holiday things, then climbing back up either on all fours or pulling myself up on the railing. I did a long walk on a good day a week or so ago and after was really hurting. A couple of days ago we went to a Van Gogh exhibit at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Just walking around the museum was a killer. But I do my PT exercises faithfully!

  20. Debbie,
Walking your pooches is bonus exercise. Going 3 miles is spectacular!

    Jeanie,
Sore after a good walk is a signal to find another way. Being outdoors has options.
PT told me the exercise bike is better for my knees. I have thoughts of bringing that light fold up with me to the outdoors, starting on my deck. I will feel stupid, but will get use to it.

  21. Every once in a while I think about starting an exercise routine. Speaking of routines... The other day I got the idea to start a simple day journal (could it have been from a post here? I don't recall). Anyway, the month is half over and I have not yet begun it. What I am waiting for, I haven't a clue. Routines are not my strength.

  22. Becki,
Journal inspiration, I get from reading blogs. Creative journal pages are done by a few bloggers that I read.
