Reassurance, Comfort, Mugs & Finger Weaving
As we age, as with all materials, there are changes, much like erosion on the landscape, that happens to us physically . Skin in particular, age spots and conditions I don't like the sound (or sight) of, takes the brunt of it at the visual level.
Well, dry patches of skin, my doctor explained the condition. I however, requested a dermatology referral becauseAfter the dermatology appointment, I was giddy with relief my spots aren't cancerous. The dermatologist and intern made sure I understand why, the signs of skin cancer and the great importance of sunscreen.
Being scared is normal. Skin cancer is nothing to be timid about. If you need answers, then get them. Don't put it off being screened.
Use Sunscreen!
Mother taught me after a tense medical appointment, one is deserving of a treat. I thought, a nice deli something or other pasta hipster edgy salad will be nice. In Charlotte, Vermont, The Brick Store was out of what I hade in mind. Instead, I bought the curry chicken salad. The cashier told me it is good. I say! It is wonderful!
A menu change, adding a new to you food is a taste vacation.

At a store check out, I saw the cutest foot tall stuffed giraff. In my delicate state grieving, I felt maybe? I didn't buy it.
First, budget wise, it is not a good choice.
Second, fuzzy things are not allergy friendly.
Last, I'd rather have a deer that I made.
Do you feel too old for a
stuffed comfort animal?

Setting future goals can take a brain breath out of feeling blue. The hope focus I posted about as the alternative to resolutions, is progressing well. A lot of researching ideas opens up new directions.
Back to an old subject...
Instead of buying my annual winter mug, after searching online, designing my own is a good idea. Practical? Not at this time. The solutions are:
~ Find a make your own ceramic store
~ Ceramic paint a plain mug
~ Find a potter to make my design
Bonuses:
👍 Creative engaging the mind
👍 Getting out of the home
👍 Meeting new people
Explore your horizons
Researching online, I often find more ideas than the things I'm looking for. In retail, a customer request for an item, by the time we stocked it, the customer lost interest. Matching demand with trends is a skill.
Will what you like today last?
Are you a trend follower?
Raise of hands, who went for the white painted wood trend?
Do you feel without a trendy bold geomtric, your decor is a failure?

Question pondering lately...
Love the beach so much? Hm?
Then why is the only place I have seashells on display is in the bathroom?

I'm so oblivious to decor trends I don't know whether I'm in or out.
ReplyDeleteVery glad your derma gave good news. Yes, checking is good.
Carol,
ReplyDeleteKeeping busy is more therapeutic than I give it credit for.
Watery eyes, I'd definitely see a doctor. A light sensitivity issue is a concern. I'd want answers, and a second opinion.
Prayers you are all right
Liz,
ReplyDeleteThe decor I see is mainly by reading blogs. Years ago, fairy lights in photos seemed to be on every other blog. Then grays, painted white wood, big plant in a corner, open shelves in the kitchen. And oh the horror of seeing so many zebra rugs!
I still love white painted wood.
I love those photos. The skies are so typical of January.
ReplyDeleteI have a stuffed bear, bought as a charity benefit thing years ago. He sits in a basket by my desk, looking inscrutable.
ReplyDeleteOh, this is such a juicy, lovely post! So much food for thought there. And yes, always smart to check out with the dermatologist because as you said, skin cancer is nothing to mess about with. And Dr. Google can't really tell you. I'm glad that's off the table. And yes, sunscreen is critical!!!
ReplyDeleteNope. I'm not too old for a stuffed comfort animal. Although, my preferred comfort animal is Lizzie when she purrs and is sweet. When she doesn't use her box or has hairballs in bad places, she's anything but comforting!
I like your idea of doing your own winter mug. And as for trends... well, I'm just not trendy. I can't afford to be trendy. And I like the old and settled in. No white movement here. Sometimes I wish I did. I like it when I see it; I just don't want to live with it. My decor is -- well, things I love. And that's enough trend for me.
I spent this morning sewing, finishing up a couple of projects that have languished for far too long. That felt good.
ReplyDeleteI have some painted wood - our dining room chairs that I bought second hand a number of years ago. I painted them white and they look light around our wooden table. I also painted the china hutch and cabinet a pale grey. I love it. But there is plenty of natural wood around here, too. My husband has made quite a few pieces of our furniture and I've promised not to paint anything he's made and lovingly finished.
Treating yourself after a stressful appointment is a lovely way to recover.
Marie,
ReplyDeleteThe pictures are taken at Overlook Park, Burlington, Vermont. Lovely place for lunch or a hot tea. Driving south, it is a right turn. Not stopping for years, I almost turned into a few driveways.
William,
ReplyDeleteYour bear probably wonders often what you are thinking. Charity event purchases, I believe, have extra magic.
Jeanie,
ReplyDeleteYour home decor looks very comfortable, and welcoming from the photos you post.
Drawing a more realistic deer pattern than what I see online is on my agenda.
Lorrie,
ReplyDeleteHandmade furniture pieces are treasures, even more so unpainted.
Painted chairs, I am surprised how well they look with an unpainted wood table.
Worry is replaced with thoughts of how well I'll learn how to make curry chicken salad.
I'm glad to hear all went well at the dermatology appt.
ReplyDeleteThe curry chicken salad sounds delicious.
I also love stuffed animals. Yes, they are comforting, and sometimes they come as memory of a special time. One is never too old for a stuffed animal, in my opinion. ; )

to answer your question.....no, I didn't go with the white painted furniture trend. I have seen homes decorated in the all-white theme, and it doesn't suit me cause I need some color in my house. I did paint a dresser a cream color recently because it was leaning against a pine wall, which I wanted a contrast. So, I do like a few pieces of white furniture, but the traditional dark furniture is my favorite.
Sheri,
ReplyDeleteThe need for color is important.
Color balance in decor can take a long time to achieve.
I like the design idea to build the theme from one thing we like. Mine is a large vintage tapestry, the kind you win at carnivals. Not a grand artwork, but I love it.
I never. went through a stuffed animal 'stage' but someone did give me a teddy bear the height of my middle finger and he was attached to my cabin bag. He circumnavigated the world many times when I lived half the year in Scotland and half the year in New Zealand.
ReplyDeleteGraham,
ReplyDeleteThat is lovely. I hope you still have that bear.
I do, indeed, Maywyn.
ReplyDelete👍
ReplyDeleteOf course, we have stuffed comfort animals mostly from teddy bears, but in the past we also had a number of frogs and penguins. But, a move and the need to downsize meant parting with most. However, we do still have them in small statues and a few ornaments. Yeah on the good medical reports and definitely always use sunscreen. My decor is definitely not trendy, but more comfy. Hope you have success in finding or making your own mug. A good mug is always a wonderful thing.
ReplyDeleteBratrice,
ReplyDeleteA comfy decor is the best decor.
Mug huntig is a nice winter pastime.
I'm like you - paranoid! Much better to get things checked out and stop you worrying than leave them. Glad all were innocent.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Liz
ReplyDeleteThe chance to make it there without anxiety issues makes me smile.
