Reflection Monday
Fear
Think about what you are afraid to speak out about.
I recently unpublished a political post out of fear. A small flock of doves banging hard into my patio window startled me back to the question...Is it really worth it?
The post title was, Is America Being Held Hostsge By Stupidity or Foreign Manipulation?
What are you afraid of?
Do you feel manipulated by events?
Wonder what happened to common sense?
For some reason I haven't been getting your posts showing up in my feed so I've missed some. I was going to comment on all the ones I've missed but realized that would be time consuming for both of us. So...I've read what I've missed and hopefully now am back on track. Don't know why my feed sometimes does that but fortunately it doesn't happen too often. Sorry I've been MIA!!
ReplyDeleteI fear too many unethical and morally corrupt people are in charge and are being given too much power. It makes me fear our future.
ReplyDeleteI saw the post title and figured you had decided against posting it. I have strong opinions, but I have decided against posting them on my blog...not really out of fear. I believe what I believe, but more the question comes to my mind ---will I be adding to the lack of unity in our country. Now, my beliefs are rooted in my faith so I am not ashamed of them or unafraid to fight for them, but I am more concerned right now with my faith in Christ being spotlighted rather than starting an argument that I would rather not or at least be able to see them in person. I used to like all kinds of things on Twitter and I just stopped that too.
ReplyDeleteI am grateful at times for those that are handling the fight in public places for me. I decided a year or so ago thought that more me I was not going to let my thoughts on the country rob me of the joy of daily living.
I do think however that this your blog and you can write what you want!!!

ReplyDeleteIn December there abouts, I changed this blog's URL to the blog name. I think that disrupted feed flows.
Been seeing you on your blog. :)
Hena,
ReplyDeleteExactly my fears for our future as well.
There are news outlets that I believe, write headlines that are misleading, making things look worse than they are.
That must explain it then - I'm so sorry that I didn't pick up on that. You must have been thinking I was being very rude and not paying any attention to you. Good thing my feed did give me an alert this morning (altho' I wish it had done it sooner!!).
ReplyDeleteSandy,
ReplyDeleteI am also grateful for those speaking out in public.
The news media is a beast to deal with when truth spins so often.
Oh, that must have startled you when the flock of birds banged on your patio window. But the mourning doves are so peaceful, and I wonder if any of them got hurt hitting the hard window? Yes, I try to stay away from political issues at get togethers with friends, because everyone has different view points. And some things I avoid talking about on the blog, not out of fear, but because I share the blog with my daughters. You're getting a lot of snow, like us.
ReplyDeleteHave a pleasant week.
~Sheri
I think America is being held hostage by both. I've unpublished (or rather, not published) posts I've written partly because they are a bit of a rant but also not wanting to hurt feelings. Would it change anything? Probably not.
ReplyDeleteWhat DID happen to common sense?
I think I may have missed a post here and there. I usually try to respond when I do see them. I agree that it's worth asking if my voice will help or not, before expressing political opinions. I do, but sparingly.
ReplyDeleteA bit of both.
ReplyDeleteMaryanne,
ReplyDeleteYou always reply to my comments on you blog. I figured the address adjustment was the issue.

ReplyDeleteA small flock of doves took flight all at once. I think more than one hit the window. I looked out to check for hurt doves. There were none on the ground. Then a squirrel jumped out and ran away. I think it scared the doves from behind a planter. It ran like it knew it was in trouble and felt bad.
A good week to you!
Jeanie,
ReplyDeleteForeign manipulation I have zero doubt is at work to undermind our democracy, beyond fake news.
Stupidity, and lack of common sense, the evidence is clear those have eroded.
Liz,
ReplyDeleteI unpublished a political post. My voice won't change what is going on in politics. I believe if I voice my opinion, it could change my life in a bad way.
Mark Twain: "Don't argue with stupid people because they'll drag you down to their level, and beat you with their experience."
William,
ReplyDeleteI believe you are right.
I would have enjoyed reading your deleted post, but I so understand unpublishing it. I don't go down roads of political thought very often on my blog (or others). I think the first time I began to recognize that we are all manipulated by social media, and by media in general, was when Obama was running for election. And WoW, did it ramp up when Trump was running, and while he was President. So yes... I have felt the manipulation. It comes from both sides. On that topic, what I fear now is not recognizing it when it happens. Mostly, anymore I try to take a very measured and circumspect attitude toward anything where someone(s) stand to gain from manipulating others.
ReplyDeleteBecki,
ReplyDeleteTruth requires research. A Single source mews, even eye witnessing might not tell all there is.
