Yellow In Flight
At Noon, 5"x7" watercolor |
From dewy lanes at morning
The grapes' sweet odors rise;
At noon the roads all flutter
With yellow butterflies.
from the poem, "September"
by Helen Hunt Jackson

At this New England latitude, in the Northern Hemisphere, there are 4 seasons, winter, spring, summer, and fall.
By color, I believe there are 5 seasons:
White-snow
Chartreuse-new plant growth
Yellow-summer sunshine
Orange-autumn foliage
Gray-bare tree branches
Color illuminates shades of ourselves a gray scale shapes. Line. Contour. Direction.
A lemon gives me permission to like yellow. Sunshine, a reason to smile. Art, the encouragement to love Peace over war.
Maywyn beautiful art...gorgeous poem and great thought regarding the seasons. Hope you are having some Chartreuse-new plant growth today. Hugs!

ReplyDeleteFinding a poem quote with yellow in it was a tough search.
We get all the seasons here too, and I appreciate it so much. This is a nice painting of the yellow butterflies. It looks cheerful and Springy.

With snow on the ground, I wore sunglasses this week.

ReplyDeleteThe scene reminds of summer on the road across the street from Nathaniel Hawthorne's house in Concord, Massachusetts.

ReplyDeleteI love the new Haiku you posted today.
Much as I dislike winter I really wouldn't want to live anywhere that didn't have the four seasons (although I do think 'mud' should be a season all its own).
ReplyDeleteMaryanne,
ReplyDeleteI agree. Mud season spring. Mud season November.
"A lemon gives me permission to like yellow." Yes! I like your watercolor, May. It looks like the best days of summer.
ReplyDeleteBecki,
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to a nice summer is almost as cheery as being summer.
