The Outdoors, Reading & Soup

Where the bird seed goes on the deck, birds are gathering again.
One afternoon there was a small crowd of feathery critters.
I thought the mourning dove was going to jump in the flowers.
As I type, there is a flock of birds racing across the back yard in the rain.

Are their signs of autumn where you are?

Another rainy day here in Vermont. The h button is sticking on my PC keyboard. Laundry is caugt up except for a quilt and some blankets. Wednesday feels like Saturday. Beads of water dot the clothesline like crystals waiting like me for sunshine. I have a new to me book to read by Susan Wittig Albert. I suspect I might have soup today to go with the weather outdoors.

  1. We are waiting for a sunny day to wash clothes and put them on the clothesline. It may be a while.

  2. Marie,
As close as hanging out clothes here on the line, has been to let them drip out before bringing them indoors to dry.

  3. We have a clear feeder on our front porch window, but it hasn't been filled for a couple days so the birds are probably nearby giving us dirty looks.
Soup on a rainy day is a perfect meal!

  8. William,
Not ready for autumn, the show of colors is still pretty.

  9. Your lentil walnut soup looks delicious, and perfect for the rainy days you're having. Those flock of birds in your back yard must have been a sight.

No signs of Autumn here yet, but I do notice the trees are starting to change just a bit.

  10. Jan,
The soup turned out nice, but needs more vegetables or toss in some chicken.

The squirrel is back as well.
I look out when I returned home today to see the squirrel staring up at me. Nervy critters. lol

  12. When I got to the lake today it was not only wet and windy, it was about 12 degrees colder than where I left.I think it will be a fireplace night. Soup sounds awfully good -- wish I had some!

  14. We noticed a flock of blackbirds congregated on the hydro line yesterday when we were out. I immediately said 'no, it's too soon!!!
Your H is sticking and my M is. Must be a common disease.

  15. Jenny,
In water, I tossed chopped celery, carrot, about a half cup walnut pieces, generous shake of garlic powder, black pepper, add the lentils when it comes to a boil, and simmer until done. It's a good base for adding meat and other veggies.

  16. Maryanne,
The humidity has been sticky. Might be time to blow out the dust on the old keyboard. Crumbs have been known to build up in there as well. :)

  18. Debra,
The walnut pieces don't get soft like the vegetables. They add a nice bit of crunch to the soup.
