Easy Squash & Turkey Soup

3 quart sauce pan

2-3 cups of chopped squash

1-2 chopped celery sticks

1 cup cooked and cubed turkey

A few shakes of black pepper

Teaspoon of garlic powder

Add water to cover squash and celery
Cook on medium low until soft
Add turkey, black pepper, and garlic powder
Add 1-2 cups broth or water
Simmer about 15 minutes

Note: If you want to freeze some of the soup, then don't add the cooked turkey cubes if the turkey has been frozen once already. You can add other ingredients when the squash soup is thawed.

The turkey was frozen in my soup. Thus, I won't freeze the soup.

Ready for December?
I'm not. There's a bit of anxiety going on via December arriving in what feels like way too soon. It is unsettling. As a distraction, I've been reviewing my list of nice things to do for myself. I want to add more.

Remember the blog subject I wanted to post that I forgot what it is? Well, it happened again. This time I forgot within minutes. I'm guessing this is either a part of the aging process or I'm such a genius, my brain only has room for so much. What doesn't fit, gets truncated. I remember it was there as well as I remember it isn't, (whatever it is).
Ice Forming
To break the spell of December woes, I've been watching videos on subjects that aren't necessarily me-ish. I do notice a lighter attitude as I spend time pondering lanes of thought I don't stroll down often.
One such lane is the training elite soldiers go through, endure, survive. Years ago I saw a documentary about U.S. Coast Guard training. I shiver to this day just thinking about a person jumping into a cold choppy ocean.

I'm such an unadventurous (out of shape) person, I didn't even watch the entire episode of "SAS Australia,*" Season 5, episode 1. I felt uncomfortable watching people in such difficult situations. They are there for a reason, good reasons.
Would I consider such a program? Yes.
Alas, I'm too old, bone density, stamina, and such being what it is. Age does have a few perks.

* I did watch 96% of Episode 2, Panic. I skip over most of the interview section.

  1. Soup sounds delicious!

I agree ~ December and especially Xmas is coming too fast ~ especially with the commercialism coming too fast ~ I sometimes feel like 'Scrooge' and with recent death in family it gets intensified ~ trying my best to see the 'good' in the moment ~ Hugs,

Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

  2. I would consider myself adventurous, but I do have my limits. Most anything that has to do with going underwater, I am out!

  3. Ah Maywyn I am with you in not being a very adventurous person. My biggest adventure is watching others be so. Also understand that December anxiety...too many things to consider at this time of the year. Wonder why we think we have to do everything in a short 25 days of the year :)!! Have a great weekend. Hugs. P.S. thank you for stopping by and leaving a special wish for me.

    Limits are good to have.

  6. Debbie,
The way retail goes, the whole year is holiday time. Christmas in July makes me cringe.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  8. Jeanie,
Your decorations are a treat each year.
I look forward to seeing your photos.
Sitting in a chair, using zoom, it is surprising how many nice pictures you can take of things in the room. :)

  10. Debbie,
Yes, the soup is good. I'm glad the last of it is gone. Two days of the same soup is a bit much. Next time I won't make so much.
I noticed today, I think my sense of taste is returning. I am thrilled.

    Happy December!

  12. We jumped from the colorful autumn leaves into the winter snow overnight... very early this year, so I had enough time to prepare for December... yup... I'm happy.
Great soup... I love soup in the cold season.
    A hug to you.

  15. Great combo of ingredients in your soup! December has come to quickly and I can't believe it's here. I don't consider myself adventurous at all!!

  16. Julie,
We can be adventurous with the video choices we make to watch. :)

  17. The soup looks and sounds really good. We eat a lot of soup over the winter and I'm hopeful we can get a turkey at a good price so there can be soup.
I'm happy to say that there are only two things I have left on my list to do for Christmas - write letters to our grandies (who absolutely love getting mail) and do the decorating. Last year I flatly refused to haul out the decorations because I just didn't feel like it but I'm more in the mood this year so tomorrow will be the day. I plan to downsize the ornaments drastically while I'm at it. I'd like to cut them down by half but we'll see.

  18. Maryanne,
Lucky in this area before Thanksgiving, Hannaford had turkeys on sale at $0.49 cents a pound. Unbelievable price. I pray your area has such a sale.
Fewer ornaments this year seems to be getting popular.
I also don't want to haul out all that holiday stuff.

I found a way to get around it as I was browsing at the thrift store today. I bought a few ornaments there. And thought, hey, what it I only use thrift store new to me ornaments? It's a plan!
