Day 5 of Week 1 January 2024

McD Coffee Happy Face
Doesn't that title look nice.

Where have I been this last week is blurry with feeling overwhelmed by the deep clean out I am once again engaged in.  Today is a mish mosh of tasks and errands. Out early for my update on a tetanus shot, I decide to treat myself to a coffee and donut!
Didn't happen.
In the age of technology, ordering take out changes.
There I am waiting for a coffee and donut for what felt like over 10 minutes (probably less). The two in front of me were there even longer. I'm finally at the counter ready to order. Instead, the clerk leaves me waiting to order; and goes to prepare more mobile orders. I waited a few more minutes, then left, drove up the road, and had my food and coffee in less time than I spent in line waiting for a donut.
What's ironic is that I went inside to order because the drive thru line takes far too long, like half an hour long. It's no wonder folks use the app to order. All of the clerks were super busy. No slacking going on there.
One problem is that there is a lack of help. A few years ago at the end of the pandemic, many folks didn't return to work. I don't know what has happened since then that causes a shortage of fast food help to continue.

As it is, up and about early in the morning is a big time reason to take a mid morning nap. Out before 8 AM, get home before 9 AM, the yawning will begin before 10 AM. There is no coffee/caffeine I know of that will stop a mid morning nap when I've been out before 8 AM except for will power. I can't afford to waste the energy I have with dozing off. In a couple of hours, I have errands to do. If I sleep, it would take twice as long to feel up to doing all the  packing up and such. I'm not leaving this chair.* I might doze off and tumble onto the floor, but I will take the chance. Based on my naps in chair experience, I'm confident I will remain upright.

The cardinal is at the bird seed. Cold temperatures brings the birds out more. There are more chickadees this year.

Have a wonderful day!

*Yawns were too heavy to chance the chair.
Sofa snooze until after noon time. I only slept about 3 or 4 hours last night.
Needed the rest.

  1. I love the header. Morning naps are wonderful when they occur!

  2. I don't get started early...usually but it feels good to get things done first thing. I have been feeling the urge to clean out again but I have gone through so much and I'm down to the things I don't want to get rid of...yet! lol Enjoy your day!

  3. I get nuts when I'm left at the counter while the drive up is being attended. Why not do them alternately? How come people outside in cars, sitting warmly, make people inside stand endlessly at the counter, why, why. Usually it's the drugstore and I can literally see, but not reach, my rx waiting for me in the bin. I wonder if the clerks feel more pressure seeing cars than people.

  6. Diane,
You are right, it is nice to get things done early.
The layer of things you don't want to get rid of is the toughest to deal with.
That is where I am now. Today I managed a good box of donations.

  7. Liz,
Nuts for sure! Why they don't mix the line up with in-person, mobile and drive thru is a mystery. When I turned around to leave, there were a half dozen folks waiting where there were none. Mobile orders no doubt. I'm glad they also have to wait. The mobile orders I saw were cold beverages.
I am proud of myself for not getting ticked off. I was just digusted a bit.

  8. Viola,
    Great minds! lol
I set the alarm when I switched to the sofa. It rang. I shut it off, and snoozed some more.

Happy New Year to You & Yours, Viola

  9. Our #1 son is a chef and does the hiring for the restaurant he works at. Sadly there seems to be a real lack of people willing to work and certainly those they do hire don't seem to have any work ethic whatsoever. He will hire someone, get them mostly trained, and then they just don't bother to show up with no explanation. It's rampant in the food service industry. People don't even bother to give notice that they're leaving - they just don't show up. And if they're sick, they don't bother to call and say so. Our son is forever getting called in at the last minute to cover someone else's shift to the detriment of his own family life. Days off in his life are few and far between.

  10. Maryanne,
Prayers your son finds good help
I have to believe one day that will happen.
A restaurant kitchen is such a team environment, it boggles the mind why courtesy to management is lacking with employees. I guess references aren't as important at they were back in the day.

  11. I waited a really long time in a local supermarket deli the other day. So long a wait, I'd have left if I hadn't needed the items for dinner that evening. While finally being helped, I mentioned the wait (in a nice way) and even joked a bit with the worker and we laughed. She did say they have a hard time getting employees. But, before being waited on, I noticed one was working on other orders (app probably) and another one was very, very slow. Now, I'd not want a person using a sharp slicer to be hurrying ... but, it was more like... slice... put piece of lunchmeat very gently on the paper... s l i c e ... s l o w l y move that one to the stack... slice... inspect that piece for proper size...ask customer if it's acceptable... and then she inspects... yes, ok... chat a few seconds... then place very neatly on pile... s l o w l y the next slice appears, etc. I'm sure my eye rolls were caught on camera. haha As my order was being finished I noticed another worker come in and call out the next number so things probably went a bit faster after that. Guess I got in line just as she left earlier for break. LOL

Love cardinals! We have a male and female in our neighborhood. Haven't seen them in a while, but hopefully soon!
    ~Mary
