The azaela waits to bloom,
as many await another winter snow storm.

It has been over a month since I set up a smart television. As yet, I have not learned how to navigate all the channels, many that I would not chose if I had a choice. I rarely turn the TV on.
As I see it, a smart TV is nothing but a streaming service device made to look like a regular easy to turn on and watch television. Evidently, "smart" means not a user friendly design, IMHO. I have to scan digital signals every time I turn on the television to just see the one local channel the "smart" TV can pick up.
I have an indoor 60 mile antenna. The old television captures 28 signals. The "smart" TV scans only 4. That is evidence to me the "smart" TV is stupid. I read online there is an app or feature in a smart television that prevents it from picking up digital signals unless you do this and that or that and this to the whatever it is.
Now I am looking into a streaming service. It is be daunting to say the least. Price is a top factor in my search. I'm in no hurry. At least I can watch YouTube on my computer without scanning anything or clicking through multiple places I don't want to have to click on.
On a positive note, I have found a way to only swipe, log in, scroll, and swipe again to make a phone call on my iphone 13.
Good luck with the search!
ReplyDeleteYou're far more tech savvy than I, that's for sure. I don't even know how to turn our tv on. It involves using two different remotes and I never can get the sequence right so end up messing it up, much to the chagrin of the RC. Yesterday I attempted to make one call using my cell phone and it took me forever to get it figured out. Swiping this way and that way - argh!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMarie,
ReplyDeleteThank you. I am making progress.
I will probably end up not getting a service, too much hassle to watch TV when I rarely watch. Buying a dumb television is the alternative I'm considering.
Maryanne,
ReplyDeleteTwo remotes to turn on a TV is one too many. You might consider an indoor antenna and a dumb television with one remote with your name on it. :)
On my iphone 13, first swipe > put in code to open phone > swipe right to page without an app offering > then swipe bottom to top for the Home page where I can access the phone, email, Internet and such.
Happy New Year! Winter has arrived here and we got some snow already!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your smart tv. I got rid of cable for now, but can watch things on Pluto, Tubi, and YouTube. So many things to choose from now.

I have a 'smart' TV which is very simple to use and I can get many dozens of channels easily many by using free apps which are pre-installed. I think our TV channel system is probably quite different to yours but I've really no idea.
ReplyDeletePS More importantly I love the header picture.
ReplyDeleteSheri,
ReplyDeleteHappy Snow! Glad y'all have a wintery winter now.
All those TV choices give me a headache. If it isn't Nova, Nature, Mystery, Britcoms or Masterpiece Theater, I'm not much interested. Laziness has set into me watching life.
Thank you, Graham
ReplyDeleteI'm into watercolors this winter. The header is a good reminder.
I think your television system there is more friendly than what we have in America. My TV is stuffed with things I never even heard of. I've done two app downloads. One I deleted and one I've kept because it is a major news channel. I believe if I applied myself to learning, then the smart TV would be easier for me.
That is a very beautiful and creative photo ~ I am ready for Spring too ~ lol
ReplyDeleteTechnology is great ~ when it works ~ but learning curve can be a bit steep and time consuming ~ good luck ~ hugs,
Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

Thank you Carol
ReplyDeleteI hope the azaela makes it through the winter.
Hugs
Technology can be frustrating, but when it works as it's supposed to, it's great. Stay warm and cozy!
ReplyDeleteLorrie,
ReplyDeleteThat is so true, when technology works, it is great.
Warm and cozy rules the day. It is raining. Time to read.
We have a "smart" TV which is not even the newest as it's at least 5 years "old" so while it has a lot of features I do not understand (or use) it is most likely a bit out of date. We use it mainly for streaming from YouTube or Netflix or Kanopy (free through the local library) and previously BritBox and AcornTV which I opted not to renew for 2024. We also use the TV as a viewer to watch DVD movies.
ReplyDeleteBeatrice,
ReplyDeleteDVD movies, I forgot all about those. There's a good amount for sale at thrift stores. I guess I will connect my DVD player and use the smart TV afterall. :)
