Stuff, Sourcing, & Surprises
Finding stuff while cleaning out a closet can be fun as well as depressing. Fun because I'm glad to have found stuff I was wondering where they went to. Depressing because now I have a ton of shredding to do.

Duvet Covers
Closet diving, I find the twin size duvet cover I bought at a thrift store last year. I opened the seams, and then cut the fabric in half. I will sew a French seam in the middle. The fabric is a light sturdy weave that will be easy to machine wash. The plaid gives the room a cozy cabin vibe that's comfortable any time of the year. In the summer, my mind can go to a cabin at the lake vibe. The label is gone. If I remember right, it is from Pottery Barn.
The surprise* of the day is finding only 2 large bins of fabric! In the past, I've had up to 5 large plastic bins of fabric, and a couple of sweater containers. Only 2 containers tells me the last time I sorted fabrics, I did a good job. This round, I'm organizing the remanants. There will be only 1 fabric bin when I finish sorting.
It's fun to see the past goodies sometimes when we go through things and organize. This fabric is really nice. Yes, it does have a cabin feel to it. Good for you for cleaning out your closet. That's not always easy. My sister is going through things right now, and she has found so much from the past.
ReplyDeleteHave a splendid week.

It is fun -- It's like shopping in a new spot and finding a great bargan!
ReplyDeleteIt's always a surprise when you start going through closets because you never know what you might find. A lot of my fabric stash has been sourced from clothing and thrift stores - far cheaper than buying new yardage at a fabric shop.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the sorting!
ReplyDeleteA splended week to you, Sheri!
ReplyDeleteAll day working on that closet, it is unreal how much stuff I've gone through to end up with a mess not much smaller than when I started.
Jeanie,
ReplyDeleteBargains for sure! I have enough buttons to last me for the rest of my life.
Maryanne,
ReplyDeleteI've been looking for vintage Madras in thrift stores for years. The few I've seen were too ugly. If the Madras plaids aren't the right color balance, the fabric can be pretty awful.
For fancy material, thrift stores are a treasure!
Marie,
ReplyDeleteToday was not a wasted day. The sorting I've done thus far has been really good.

ReplyDeletenice find on your ring!!
Debbie,
ReplyDeleteThe plastic ring around the top of a milk jug, I've been saving them for over 15 years on a long heavy string. Until they go on the string, they sit on a small glass bottle neck. That's where my ring was. lol
You make your work sound like a treasure hunt! I think I will have that mindset when I start to dive into my craft/sewing supplies. Nice that you found your ring!
ReplyDeleteBecki,
ReplyDeleteThe best part of treasure hunting, is finishing it. With a nice cup of tea, it is a good feeling.
So glad you found your ring! My fabric stash is large, and I have trouble parting with any of it. I plan to sew much more!
