Assessing a Blogging Past

2008

Do you remember what you were thinking during each project?
Why you started? What the goal is? Where the idea began?

The year 2008 is 16 years ago. I'd have to look up blog posts to jog my memory for what I was doing back then. This blog began in October 2012, moved over from Poet Whale Studio (2010). The 2 years from 2008 to 2010, I was blogging elsewhere as Cornsilk Moon. I morphed the blog title here a few times before settling to this final name.

It boggles my mind that I've been blogging for 16 years. What has changed? I'm not sure, but I believe I don't write with as much scatter-brainess as I use to. My subjects seem to flow the same. I no longer feel the need to change the blog title.
For what is the same, venting. I still have to put effort into not posting vents about customer service, politics, something in the news or a personal experience.

(That may change as the 2024 election nears.)

  1. I've been blogging since March 2006. At first I felt I needed to blog every day but in recent years it's settled into 3x week. Originally it was a way of keeping our boys informed about what I was creating and no one was more surprised than I was when I started accumulating readers outside the family. Now I know that I have just over 270 followers but out of those only about ten comment regularly. I could do giveaways again and that would bring more out of the woodwork but postage costs are too high to do that now.

  2. Wow! Maryanne,
    That's 18 years blogging.
You have a fantastic blog that I always look forward to reading.

Giveaways, postage is expensive. If the winner is from out of the country, then it is even more expensive. I'm considering an April giveaway because I think that's the month this blog started.

Over the years, the number of blogs that did giveaways, I believe has dwindled. When they did have a giveaway, comments sky rocketed, like ants after a piece of candy on a hot summer day. I think there's a keyword alert programmed for Giveaway.

  3. Well done on the years of blogging! They take dedication and determination!

  4. Marie,
If I lived closer to a beautiful place as PEI with all those lovely walking trails, then blogging would be even better. There are places, but you have to travel here, and they aren't the best to be out there alone.

  7. I just celebrated 14 years so long 5hat went buy so quickly!
When I post about regular daily things I get more action on those posts than when
    When I post about news.

  8. Debbie,
That is wonderful to know who you are making something for.
With art, my skill tanks if I have to paint for somebody else. A professor told me, he noticed that my drawing was very good, noting done when he wasn't there, (car trouble).

  9. Jan,
Blogging is more fun now that it was in the beginning. :)

  10. Bravo 14 years, Cathy!
I agree with your observation, regular daily things do attract more readers.

  11. I think we all vent from time to time on our blog posts. Our blog friends give us support and encouragement, and it's nice to visit blogs and receive comments as well. Wow, you've been blogging for a long time. For me, it's been 13 years. Where does the time go?

So glad I found you in blog land, my friend.

  12. Sheri,
I am grateful you found blog land.
After so many years, the numbers become an amazing representation of something that doesn't always make sense unless you thing about it in terms of Community. Bloggers form communities of like minded people. It can be a wonderful neighborhood to be part of.

  13. Congratulations on your years of blogging. It's been a great way to connect with people all over the world. I've been blogging since 2006 or 2007, I think (I'm too lazy to look it up just now.) Hope you continue to blog for a long time.

  14. Lorrie,
It is a challenge to think of the future when we've been blogging for 20 years! Your wonderful blog is almost there.

  16. We've been blogging about the same time. And yes, the blogs definitely evolve. We change our styles or subjects -- or maybe we just grow. I love the mixed media post you shared.

  17. Belated congrats πŸŽ‰to you on your 16th blog anniversary, which I missed earlier 😟 I also celebrated one this year, #14, so you have been at it even longer, bravo!

I read the comments from fellow bloggers and noted a few similarities in my own blogging habits now. When the blog started, there were daily posts, since when we started both my husband (Patrick) and myself were actively posting about our VA home, garden, home cooking, road trips, family etc. We never seemed to run out of topics. Over the years, the posts lessened as Patrick became involved with other interests and while I did as well, blogging remained a constant even if less frequently. Currently, posts are 3 or less per week. What is time consuming is trying to keep up with daily bloggers and there are many who share far more often. My pattern now is to try and comment on the most recent, while reading previous ones but not commenting.

I have n desire or need to change the blog title or the images, although I have been considering a second blog.

One thing I do maintain is not to post about current events, politics or religion. Everyone has their own views and beliefs as it should be and remain. But ranting about customer service or a personal experience is OK as it may benefit someone, including yourself πŸ˜‰

I have met a few fellow bloggers face-to-face over the years, while so many more remain as "friends" never yet met online. It has been a wonderful experience which continues to this day. And, maybe we will meet one day as we are New England neighbors and VT is a state we have visited many times. Patrick wants to attend bread-making sessions at King Arthur Baking, another visit may be in ourv future as well.

  18. Beatrice,
Bread making at King Arthur sounds like a nice spring excursion.
I've wanted to visit there for ages.

I've never met a blogger. I'm not keen on face to face except for a few bloggers I've known online for years. Face to face is nice, but it takes away from the magic of cyber space. I left a comment once on a celebrity's video. They replied! I freaked out. I don't want chat with or know them. I like my cozy chair at home alone. lol

  19. First of all, I love that painting, May. What a fun idea you had to do that.

I've been blogging since 2007, and my blog has morphed into and out of all sorts of things. I started blogging just as a novel thing to do. To see how it worked. Over the years, I've enjoyed connecting with people all over the world, as we all eventually do. That has been blogging's biggest reward, I think. I'm still amazed that anyone stops by regularly and comments. I am grateful for commenters, as yourself, who are kind and thoughtful.

  20. Congrats on all the years of blogging! It's about 16 for me, too. I've never really had any schedule or theme... just share lots of assorted things. Occasionally, I've let some opinions rip about politics, and vented about a few other things. Blogging glitches are a bit more challenging in recent years, but am still trying to post/read as much as possible.
The mixed media watercolor and cut paper is really lovely!!

  21. Mary,
Comment glitches are what I experience most on Blogger. Assorted subjects to blog about, I feel, are the easiest as well as the most enjoyable.
    Have a wonderful week!
