An April Afternoon

Upstate New York, Lake Champlain
at Fort Saint Frederic
16  April 2024

It was a beautiful Spring day.

And here at 1 AM in the morning, my
throat is sore from a screaming nightmare
that woke me up.
Vivid person appears intent on
harming me in the dream. Out of nowhere,
at a place I don't know, fearing being there,
hearing somebody following me.
Not a good thing for that person
Anger is powerful, my anger.
The scream is louder than usual
because I am certain there is
not going to be  good outcome.
Ergo, I awake.
Cough drops at the ready.

Later that morning...
I fell back asleep. Around 4 AM , I woke to a louder scream, different person, same danger though. My throat is slightly scratchy. Beautiful sunny day, I went out and had a relaxing time, bought and planted violas, lunch at McD, and a thrift store stop. I picked up a few lovely small containers for my picnic basket.
There's a gorgeous ecru leather sofa there that I would buy in a heartbeat if I had the room. I also bought a small postal scale for letters from April 1988...1st class...$0.25 cents!
Anyway, I believe the nightmares are due to a heavy (for me) stress event this week that I volunteered for. As it is, I think it is best to let that go; and try a less stressful event.

  1. I hope all is well. I have never been to Lake Champlain. I have heard stories of it though. Janice

    1. Janice,
The lake was beautiful yesterday. Today we have another sunny day with overcast wannabe clouds.
      Have a wonderful day!

    1. Liz,
I went back to sleep to wake with a louder scream than the first. A double nightmare is very rare.
The people images are so clear, it felt like somebody walking into my mind. Not a good place for them
to be. I pray for their souls when dreams like that happen.

I hope y'all have as much sunshine today as we do up here in Vermont!

    1. Marie,
Thank you. I did. First thing out I bought violas before lunch at McDs. I ended with a cheer up at the thrift store.
Beautiful sunny day with a nice breeze.
      Wishing y'all sunshine!

    1. Jeanie,
Thank you. Sunny here. It is going to be a nice day to get outside. Yesterday, I was listening to the YouTube video on Sixty and Me that Liz recommended. Daily exercise outdoors is key to good mental health.

  6. So sorry you had a couple nightmare episodes which has me thinking it's probably a good thing I don't very often remember my dreams.

    1. Maryanne,
The dreams were specific, almost like watching a video.
Weirdnesses today sometimes have real explanations.

  7. Oh, Maywyn, I'm sorry you had those nightmares. They can feel so real. Doing a bit of gardening and treating yourself sounds like a nice way to relax. Hope you sleep well tonight.

The violas in the rain today that I planted yesterday are looking adorably sweet. They make me smile.
      I slept well last night.

    1. Becki,
Rearranging life to reduce stress makes for better sleeping.
I forgot, last night I had a glug or two of Kahlua in my decaf coffee. That helped.

Funny thing, the more I think about the faces, one of them looks familiar. I might have seen her on a
      TikTok video. That's scary.

  10. I hope you find peace it sounds ....(stressful is too weak a word...I can't think of one). Gentle hugs and a hand to hold.

Being by the sea like you are, would be ideal for relaxing to walk on the beach with a hot coffee.
I put a halt to the stress trigger. I don't expect more nightmares.
