I'm so homely! vs self image

One of the main reasons I watch Facebook Reels, and Youtube shorts and videos is to see fun grass roots image creator folks with a wider perspective than what's in the news. In other words, to cheer me up.

As it happens, I notice that I'm not feeling cheered up. I've started to quickly scroll past dancing, in your face close up beautiful people, fitness, folks preaching they aren't old, and look at-me-ladies guys with tattoos (now that's just sad). After a while, it got to me that I will never be that young again. I didn't expect to think that way.

Would an Over 60 website help? Yes. I say over 60 because being in your fifties, you are still young. I believe, the slide picks up momentum when you hit 60 years, no matter how fit or young you look.
The closer you are to the end of your life, the heavier that vibe becomes. Being fit can hold you up better.

All those, younger by far, attractive people are denting my self image. I caution folks, especially the elderly, who watch a lot of reels, shorts and videos created by real people, try not to allow feeling inferior get a hold of your self image. Think...Everyone is beautiful...You included.

Instead of being dissatisfied with your appearance, feel inspired to become fit, lose weight, eat well, enjoy life out and about walking, talking with friends, engaging in an activity like bird watching or photography.

What pulls you down, creates a path you can use to find your way upward.

  4. In your fifties you are just beginning to feel your age. That can change quickly!

    1. Marie,
Age didn't bother me much until this last year. Watching all those short videos of mostly young folks; ads on TV with gray hair actors mostly for ailments and such; lack of gray hair employees I see out and about, it all adds up to a where are all the older folks. I hear states are elderly heavy, but every day life doesn't support that.

  6. I try not to get too influenced by the influencers and take everything with a grain of salt.

    1. Hena,
A grain of salt attitude is a key to good living. I will try to shake a bit of salt into my life.
      I'll be happier for it.

  7. Well said. I stay away from places like Instagram and YouTube primarily because I don't need to start comparing myself to the so-called 'beautiful' people (and that includes creative people who are so much more talented, more inspired, more everything). I can understand why young people struggle so much with self-esteem when all they're seeing on those types of platforms are Barbie types. The same can be said about ads on tv - the only time you see 'real' people are in ads for things like Depends and Preparation H. A few years ago Dove had a campaign where they depicted 'fluffy' people and I thought it was wonderful. Sadly they discontinued it, no doubt because they found it didn't boost sales.

    1. Maryanne,
Barbie type excess is so spot on! You make a good point about TV ads.
Being very attractive, though, has its problems as in folks only care about your looks. Arm candy women, trophy women, and it goes for men as well. I'm not against beautiful people showing off their beauty. I just don't want to see so much of it.
