Flowers, Emails & Reading

Green Mountains
from New Haven, Vermont
May 2024

There has been spectacular weather half days this week. Flowers and flowering trees are at peak. The scenery is breath taking.

I've been scrubbing emails, social media, puttering and such for an Internet spring spruce up. Many of the website emails that I've Unsubscribed to are still being received.  I can save the unsubscried email or write them down to check if they actually have been unsubscribed to.

Put winter away, and spring clothes sorting is still going on. By the time I'm finished, there will be a bag going to the transfer station because the thrift stores are no longer accepting winter clothes. I might post a notice on Free Craigslist for reseller folks instead. Decisions.

Sad. Author Alice Munro, 1932 ~ 2024, has passed away. In Canadian Literature class at UVM (University of Vermont)* we had Munro readings to study. I get her mixed up with Margaret Atwood. The photographs of them in their later years, they look like sisters.
Both very talented writers. I'm adding them to my summer reading list.
Consider adding a few Canadian authors to your reading list.
Almost Full Lilacs

The lilac bushes are in full bloom in some areas, and others they are nearing full bloom. My guess is that the amount of sun they receive determines how fast they will flower. I've seen a darkest purple lilac, darker than the darkest ever. I didn't make a note of where it is.

I haven't been reading or watching a lot of news. Thus, the level of frustration over World events is at a low. It is, however, difficult to pass over politics. The GOP is taking a huge unecessary chance supporting a loser. It makes zero sense to me.

Sunscreen season has officially begun for me. Bug spray season began in April. My picnic soft side cooler is all put together. The next on the task list is to get out the sewing machine to alter and repair clothes.

It won't be long before it is strawberry picking time in this area. With all the rain we've been having, I hope the strawberries will be plump and sweet.

  1. Nice early summer plans. Especially including strawberries. With unsubscribe, I generally find it's easier marking them spam, because they rarely stop coming. Some even double down.

    1. Liz,
      Good idea, thank you
I've started to Unsubscribed from the website's email, on the bottom where they have the unsubscribe. Hopefully, that will cut down on repeats.
      Have a fun day!

  2. I'm still transferring clothes. Some are now too big but it's so expensive to buy new ones, I schlep around in them anyway. I love that you still have lilacs and flowering trees!

    1. Jeanie,
It can feel like my clothes are bigger when the elastic gives out.
Elastic nowadays does not last like before the 1990s. I have a dress from 1975 that still has good elastic. Pants not even ten years old, all the elastic is stretched out. Not my fault. Clothes are not as well made as they once were.

  3. You have mentioned all the things in Spring - the lilacs blooming, sun screen, bug spray, ripe strawberries. Too bad the thrift stores won't accept winter clothes now. So good of you to try. I just stored my winter clothes in the back of the closet, and brought out the Spring, Summer ones. It's a process, isn't it?

    1. Sheri,
Yes, I agree, it is a process.
One more day to finish is all or else it goes in a plastic bag back in the closet.

  4. I love the spring greens that are out there now. So many different ones and finally all the flowering trees and plants are in full bloom here. Sadly it means the bug season is in full swing too, as a hatching of flies in my sewing room window will attest. Thank you for the shout out to Canadian authors.

    1. Maryanne,
Favorite poems I love by Canadian poets. Wilson MacDonald is one such poet.
