The Lake, Aches, Sofa & the Firefly

Lake Champlain in July

Last Sunday was a perfect day for being out and about to enjoy the sunshine. Despite the wind, it was a lovely afternoon.

My fribromyalgia is acting up. There are days when I'm thinking time to use my cane. The problem is, I'll probably leave it somewhere. Moving around more, (week 2 of back to the exercise bike), will help decrease the aches and pain.

Gardening, laundry, and puttering still make up most of my days. I finally tried Murphy's Oil Soap on the floors. It is an improvement over a pine cleaner.

The sofa recovering is progressing. I went to Joann's Fabric store recently. I was overwhelmed at the size of the place. They took over the store space that closed next door. I didn't look around much as I'm keen on shopping for what I need, check out and leave. I was so intent on leaving, I bought the wrong kind of batting. I want the fluffy polyester. Instead, I have the thin cotton blend. Oh well.

On the interesting events front:

lights out, I see streaks of green light about 3 or 4 inches long going across the dark towards the top of a storage cabinet. Once it stops, I see the blinking green light of a firefly.

Sad story somewhat. The lone firefly circles the smoke detector...with the little green light. Then the lone firefly goes over to land on the cabinet. I figure, it got its way in, then it can find its way out. Besides, I like the company.

I haven't seen it since.

  1. We occasionally used to get a firefly indoors, too, blinking in the dark. Our little boy would be thrilled.

    1. Liz,
It feels magical watching a firefly indoors.
The light streaking is a surprise that I don't see outdoors.

  2. That firefly found a home by the sound of it. Hope you have a great day!

    1. A great day to you, Marie!
I hope the firefly made its way outdoors to find a pal.

  3. Sorry to hear about your fibro flare. I've been using my cane too -- at least for longer walks. Even if I don't use it the whole way, I feel more secure having it with me. I'm glad, though, that you've been up, out and it sounds quite productive! Happy new week.

    1. Happy July, Jeanie!
For longer walking, having the cane is a good idea.

  4. So sorry you're in the midst of aches and pains. I hope they pass soon. How magical to see a firefly. We don't have them here.

    1. Lorrie,
There are places, when the conditions are right (hot and humid), that absolutely glow with firefly light, damp ditch areas especially.

  5. Hope you are feeling better. I love watching the fireflies in the trees behind us. The Joann's here downsized. I heard they might go out of business. So sad if they do. Janice

    1. Janice,
Quick Google says they were bought and still up and running.
A Walmart use to have a sewing section. It has been down sized, and nothing as good as it was.
Thank you. I switched the exercise bike sessions to days of short rides to long rides. In a week or so, I should stop feeling like a duck when I walk. lol

  6. I'm sorry your fibromyalgia is acting up. I have heard that it's quite painful when it flares up. I haven't been to Joanne's Fabric store in a long time. I used to go to the one in my hometown and just browse. That's a lovely lake picture.

Take care, and feel better, my friend.

    1. Sheri,
Moving helps prevent the pain from fibromyalgia. The exercise bike routine is adjusting well to my old aching muscles.

  7. Alas no Joanne's here - at least that I've ever seen. We have a wonderful place called 'Len's Mills' that I like to go to but it's too far away for RC to ride in the car and I don't want to go on my own. Luckily they do have mail order but it's not the same as being able to fondle the fabrics and yarns in person.
Hope your fibro sorts itself and you feel better.

    1. Maryanne,
It is sad there isn't a fabric store near you.
Over the years, 2 or 3 have opened and closed in this area. The drive up to Joann's store is about a 40 minute drive.
