How did 3 weeks of January 2025 go by so fast?

The weeks slipping by so fast this year has to stop. A leisurely pace allows more gratitude to be recorded. And this year, I want to fill my thankfulness stash to the fullest. If the days spin with more warp than saunter, at my old age, I might lose my balance.

On a slow note, the tear (made by fabric caught by the lever door handle) of my puffer coat has been repaired with liquid sew for fabric by LoctiteⓇ. Lever door handles may be easier for feeble hands to use, but they are more dangerous for me than they are a help. The biggest danger is when the lever door handle catches inside a sleeve, pulls my arm back and/or throws me off balance. Thus far, I've been lucky to not have a bad injury. Too bad about my coat.

In the weather forecast for this area snow is on the way. The sky looks like it wants to take a nap, smooth gray and white has replaced the sunshine.

I splurged and bought the economy package of stew meat. Three days of beef stew has been nice. However, I'm ready for any meal without beef! Black bean chili is on today's dinner menu.

My new hair cut at the beauty parlor this year keeps on giving. I continue to be thrilled by how easy it is to style and care for. A feather bob is the way to go. I cut my own bangs though. Last night I hit the pothole of bang's potholes by cutting them too short. For a while they will take on the wind-swept look.

How is your January going?

  1. That's good that you could repair your coat with liquid sew for fabric. Have never heard of that. Beef stew sounds perfect for these cold winter days. I also cut my own bangs. Bundle up and stay warm if you have a snow day. We are expected to get some in February, with January being a sunny month.

    Have a pleasant week ahead.

    1. Sheri,
The cold temperatures rule the weather this week. Have to say that those news videos of skiers looks inviting despite the cold.

  2. My last haircut was too short. I am watching it grow oh so slowly this time of year.

    1. Marie,
Watching hair grow here as well. Short bangs brings a Whoville cowlick back for me. 🤣

  3. Yes, time is flying by faster and faster it seems. Sorry about your coat but you mentioning it has made me look seriously at the levered doors in our hallway and wonder if they should be replaced. So far we haven't had a problem but sometimes it can be a case of too late smart.

Lever door handles can catch lots of stuff. Good luck

  4. I hear you on the door handles -- one almost took me out, grabbing my sleeve; another time, the handle of my shoulder bag. I like them for ease but I need to think when I see one. Keep cozy -- it's frigid out there and coming your way if it hasn't already arrived.

    1. Jeanie,
We’ve had freezing temperatures for a while now this winter.
The ADA requires lever handles for the ease of use.. The trick is to survive them until the arthritis sets in to need them.

  5. Lots of good things happening in your life just now. Being happy with a haircut goes a long ways! Black bean chili sounds like a wonderful meal on a cold day. I find lever handles a bit awkward sometimes, too. It's now necessary to install them on all new construction here. Sigh.
My January is going well! The days are chilly, but bright. I'll take that over dismal rain anytime!

Cold and rain are scary words together. Glad your weather is clear.
I pray somebody invents an easy and safe door handle.

  6. A nice hearty beef stew sounds perfect. The month has been flying by. We have barely had a free weekend.

  8. Reading about beef stew made me realize that it has not graced our crock pot since last year and not very often, a situation which will be remedied with a next shopping trip. That said, I will confess that bean chili sounds just as delicious to me.

As to where and how fast the first 3 weeks of this new year have gone, if and when you do find out, please let me know. Cold in Nashua, NH, too this week with single digits overnight and teens in the daytime.

    1. Beatrice, The freezing weather with sunshine makes it clear this is winter. I fear February will bring more snow than we need.
      Stay warm!
