Winter Skies
New word - Dysania - Extreme Difficulty getting out of bed in the morning (sleepfoundation.org).
Woe is me what a struggle it has been to push through a haze of dysania! I had Zero (note capitalized) desire to get off the sofa for nearly 3 days.
What put me there, I feel, is the negative impact on my mental health all those executive orders brings on.
Light exposure to the news is a great help. I don’t mean to drag on about it. It is that I believe sharing might help others not feel so alone. I think I am not the only American suffering through this era if horrors.
So yesterday and today I am Up! Yay! 🥳👏😎
The sun is shining brightly!
The first task I took up this morning is an oil pastel color sketch and an acrylic winter late afternoon sky. The color of pale yellow on the horizon, sometimes the entire sky, can be fascinating in how the gray clouds and blue sky blend. The sky in the photograph is a favorite.
Last night’s sunset was a vibrant pink. Indeed, it was a delight to see. Winter skies are a treasure of color and shapes.
I don't think it can be said that it's only Americans who are suffering - I know it's the prevailing feeling here in Canada too. There seems to be a pall of doom hanging over our heads. Waking up to sunshine helps though.
ReplyDeleteMaryanne,
DeleteThank you. I see that now.
When our neighbors are having difficulties, the doom does radiate.
Be well
Thank you for this new word, dysania, which was unfamiliar to me. The news can be a real downer, which is why I only scan a few news sights in the early am and then leave them all, no listening or watching the nightly news which many others feel compelled to do. It may make me less up-to-date on world events, but my spirits will not be dampened as much. I am glad that you decided to return to art and agree that nature is a wonderful canvas of inspiration.
ReplyDeleteBeatrice,
DeleteNo nightly news is a challenge. It means we'll not do well in the weekly news quiz. No matter for me because sometimes a tank even when I do watch the news. lol
It is good to hear you have been up the last two days. It is hard to avoid the news but absolutely essential these days.
ReplyDeleteMarie,
DeleteAfter so much down time, being up and about feels like a vacation! There are websites like factcheck.org that can be read in place of the news for a better understanding of what is going on.
I'm glad you are up and at 'em again. (I think that the expression). ; ) The sun has a way of making us feel better, vitamin D. And your art is such an inspiration. Nature is always a good thing too. There's just so much goodness in it. Have a pleasant week.

Yes it is scary-what's going on. I have family directly impacted by some things that have been put into place. And I am truly afraid for them. I am torn between watching and not watching the news.
ReplyDeleteArt really does help.
I'm cutting down on exposure to the news here in Canada, too. It's so dreadful, full of doom and gloom, with real threats. But I can do nothing but pray, so I'd sooner read a book or putter in my kitchen.
ReplyDeleteSunny weather outside has helped, but today the clouds are moving in.
