Sports, Comedy & Drama

The winter hat experiment I made a few years ago is my go to head cover. Even if I find my fleece and faux fur winter hats, the buttons’ hat is my favorite.

Television is like that, determine the best shows and they are the go to TV entertainment.

In an effort to mix up routines, I have been viewing TV programs that aren’t on my go to list. I can say that decision is a good one. Adding sports by having a game on for a few minutes is lifting my spirits. Folks are very enthusiastic about sports. The vibe is healthy, uplifting, a chance for the brain to experience group joy.

The Super Bowl, however, I did not watch. I am eager to take peeks to check the score, and always to read about the results. To my surprise the top articles on Google news are all about the man in the white house. Unreal.

Comedy and Drama are scheduled with dramas late at night, (an adult content issue).
I mute or changed the channel when the tension is too high. This has been getting stronger for over a year now. I have even not watched or turned off favorite dramas on TV.
There are no increases in my daily life to put a strain on my ability to deal with stress. Thus, thinking outside my personal life, I explore what is going on in the World around me and beyond.

Guess what I see!

This isn’t about politics. It is about the quality of Life Environment. Impact. Things I have minimal power to contribute to a safe and just process that will improve the World I live in.
My minimal is to write to legislators, local and national, with a polite and positive attitude, on issues that concern me that may help them govern. In school back in the day, they called it Civics.

Now, on to making a nice hot soup to go with a good book

Have s wonderful day

  1. Civics classes - I haven't thought of that in years (probably not since I got out of school!).
There's precious little I care about on the tv and most often I'm knitting or crocheting (or reading) whilst the RC watches something. I love nature programs and will pay more attention to those, but otherwise I could mostly care less if the tv was even on.

    1. Maryanne,
Limited TV watching has worked for me as well. I am more selective.

  2. Limiting the news helps me. A nice bowl of soup and a good book go a long way too.

    1. Marie,
Bread and soup are a favorite meal. Trying to make a small loaf will be interesting for today ‘s fun.

  3. The TVs in our home (2 of them) are used to stream movies and watch PBS programs, mainly Antiques Roadshow and Masterpiece. News programs are never watched. I will admit to scanning headlines on a tablet in the am but no more than 30 minutes and usually much less. Soup and a good book were on the agenda for Sunday, mine was minestrone, accompanied by homemade bread.

    1. Beatrice,
Reading headlines was my main news source. Now, there are so many articles about one person, I have to limit reading headlines as well.

  4. I often have the TV on or an audiobook on when I am on the computer of doing other errands and chores. I don't like the quite.. the background noise soothes. Sometimes they are just reruns of sitcoms of the past.. jokes I know by heart. I don't even have to watch to know the punchline is coming.

    1. Hena,
Background television audio is soothing. It’s like family dinner chatter.

  5. We cancelled our cable several years ago and watch some news (very little) on apps. Gentle programs are what I enjoy. I'm watching Lark Rise to Candleford on Tubi - a free app. I wonder if it is available in the US. The show is lovely.

    1. Lorrie,
The Candleford series aired in America years ago. I think it went up to the last episode. Many of the actors are seen since especially Mark Heap, Brendan Coyle and Sandy McDade.

  6. Your buttons hat is soooo cute. And your soup looks just right for these cold winter days. I love stews and soups during wintertime.

    1. Sheri,
The hat has a fun habit of rolling down over my eyes. I think a few tucks here and there will adjust the fit.

  7. I always have the tv on (or sometimes radio) even when I'm not listening. My tinnitus is so loud it keeps me from going nuts and not hearing it quite so often with a background noise. I don't watch the Super Bowl but I would never do anything to miss All Creatures Great and Small on Sundays. Even the Oscars would have to wait!

Your All Creatures priorities are good. The radio is nice background sound especially when talk shows are on.
