Day 87 of Week 13 March 2025

Signs of Spring

This last full week of March 2025 feels sorrowful, as if saying farewell to a friend. Perhaps the anticipation of Spring arriving is so great, the end of this month is a loss. Weird.

The weather forecast for the Northeast is snow and a wintery mix aka ice. I’m sure the sorrow will fade with the first snowflake, the friend stayed too long thing.

Speaking of over stayed, there’s the keyword trap where every version of your search shows similar results that don’t fit what you are looking for. For example, galvanized garden tub, metal planter tub, planter tub with a bottom. All those search results will have raised garden beds that have no bottom with a few actual tubs thrown in.

A small deck screen of ornamental corn in 3 spray painted tubs is what I hope to create. Height is the priority because corn needs about 16 inches of soil. Outdoor strength is also needed. So I thought, instead of white food tubs, go for a galvanized metal tub that will last for years.

Solution, visit the garden center. Food tubs are cheaper but won’t last and contribute more plastic waste.

  1. If you have a farm shop in your area they often sell galvanized 'tanks' meant to hold water for cattle. Don't know if they'd have anything in the size you're looking for but worth checking perhaps.

    1. Maryanne,
Thank you. That is a good idea. Troughs are about the size I’m hoping for. Measuring the space I have though, it will have to be a sipping trough. lol

  2. A cranberry orange cake sounds Yummy. And a cup of ginger and lemon tea is always soothing and calming. The sun is shining today, but Spring has not arrived here yet. Waiting patiently.
