Verification Log In Nightmare

On Google’s Gmail, (not this account), I log in with the verification photos. I click on the Gmail icon to read my emails. That brings me to an ominous dark page asking for a code to verify it us me (again) by sending a code to my old phone number or an email address.

I try to log in to the backup email address but it wants to do the same thing, send codes to old phone and email addresses I can’t access without a code. See the merry-go-round?

One website wants me to send a photo of me holding my passport! That is, IMHO, insanely unsafe. I’ve had better luck with AOL and Yahoo mail, hassles but they make sense hassles.

How to not get into the verification abyss is not easy. I appreciate a two step verification log in when the procedure is done well. I have the feeling it is me that’s the problem. Tomorrow I will try again, and write down what I am doing just to be sure I’ll catch any mistakes I may make.

It is unreal to go through a not a robot capture to verify after entering a password and still need a code to login in or access all features of the account. You have to have 2 email addresses open and a phone line to login into your account after you enter the good password. Ugh!

P.S. I tried again this morning.

Gmail wants to send code to backup email address. I can’t access that email address because AOL wants to send a code to an email address I can’t log into or the old phone I don’t have. Thus, it isn’t just me.

Another account replied to my support email asking for information they already have. I emailed them I need to change my phone number. Their reply asks me to tell them why I need to access my account. I kid you not.

Update:

App!

From the online app store aka Apple app store (hassle to get to) I downloaded the Gmail app.

Using that Free app, I can access all my email accounts using only a password.

Knowing how folks are practically bullied to download apps, I should have thought of app access sooner.

Note, I changed my phone number here but Gmail aka Google is still using the old phone number a day later. I read it can take time for the change to process, a long time.

I hope my experiences help somebody.

PPS…A few minutes later, I am an app convert. Already downloaded a couple of apps that had they been installed, would have eliminated all the hassles. 😇🥰👍😎

Much searching for answers . Why Gmail requires a code to read emails after signed in makes zero sense.
You can have the right info password and still Google will say you don’t have enough info to recover your account. Sounds like a scam.

  3. Oh my word - talk about yet more runaround! Hopefully you've figured it out and have a process that will work. Touch wood, my access seems to be relatively straightforward...am I jinxing myself?

    1. Maryanne,
No jinx could interfere with the way some programs work, imho.
Using the email app feature has a high learning curve.

  4. Oh groan... I absolutely hate this kind of stuff. When you have a two-step verify and forget to change your phone number-it's awful. I lost money at Amazon because of that kind of thing. And I nearly lost ALL of my gmail accounts because of a weird thing google sent me. I was panicked and prayed. I found out that I could restore the accounts- I looked up the process to do so on google (of course). All this after praying fervently. I'm glad God is aware of even the little things in our lives!

Sorry you went through an account recover. It is a very tense and scary process. You have nerves of steel now.

  5. How frustrating! I am pleased that these companies take security seriously, but all the passwords, signing in, two-factor verification, and codes can be extremely hard to manage. Glad you were finally able to get in. Yes, apps seem to be the way to go. What would we do without our phones?

    1. Lorrie,
It is a matter of time, I feel, before the face or thumb requirement log in is pushed on us through some stupid programed glitch like 2 step to app install. Or the pass code feature thing.

Modern technology grooms our brains to give in to minimize hassles. Now I’m looking for a way around the apps. They have me so drawn in with the super easy code texts. Clever they be.

    1. Jeanie,
You are right. And those hoops, I feel, are meant to be difficult to get through.
