Day 94 of Week 14 April 2025

The first notice of the season that a bear has been seen a few miles from here is posted on the local Front Porch Forum website.
I’ve been waiting for the sightings to begin. Since the compostable garbage rule began in Addison County Vermont, bear notices is part of Spring like crocus are out.

I am thankful there is only a day or two of sunflower seed left before it all is finished by birds, squirrels, skunk, rabbits, and the wind.

  1. My critters have been hungry and I just bought several big bags of seed for them. Those blooms make me smile!

  2. Bear alert is a scary thought. Hope they stay away from your neighbourhood!

    1. Marie,
Some years a few make it close enough to not go out walking alone without bear spray.

  3. There's a new compostable waste program here and I must admit I never thought of the bear attraction possibility. We can't take part unless we want to physically take the compost to the landfill site (apartment living means there's no way to put it out at the curb).

    1. Maryanne,
No disposable program set up here as well. The best we can do is bag up compostables to put in the trash.

  4. No bears seen around here this weekend! I hope they stay far from you. Have a good week ahead, Maywyn.

    1. Lorrie,
All the warmer weather will hopefully provide food in the woods for bears to not need to venture close to town.
      Have a wonderful week!

  5. Do you have bear encounters often?

    1. Hena,
No, bears have not crossed my path. Seeing tracks in the mud over 25 years ago while on a hike is thankfully the only real evidence I’ve seen.
