To make a long story short, after weeks of somebody visiting old posts, I made the decision to do the same. I haven't regularly read my old posts. Thus, I have put the majority of my blog back into the Draft folder. I am editing posts to slim down this blog.
Totals: All 3004. Published 260. Draft 2744. Photographs are over 5000.
Yep, I have been blogging 17 years. What you can see now are recent post with older posts that begins in 2024. The future of this blog is in a state of transition. I am considering a blog name change to, The Hues of Maywyn*. Right now, however, I feel like giving up on blogging.
The increased use of the name Salty Pumpkin since I began using this blog's name in 2012 has been difficult to deal with. Now that there are websites using just the name Salty Pumpkin to sell online, it has been devastating to me. A Broken spirit to put it mildly.
The more a name is used online, I believe, the more results that will appear, as in the search engine determines the results based on use, not the use of an individual. The majority of those Maywyns were there waiting for the search engine to include them.
I don't believe that is the case with the name, Salty Pumpkin.
* I will remain with Blogger.
I tried, again, with Wordpress, even with a paid account.
After 4 tries to add a template, it is so difficult to edit that I gave up, canceled my order and deleted my account. I'm not a coded tech savvy person. But I know that wordpress is not for me.
I hope you find a blog name that brings you joy. I think you should stick to your original name if no one else has it out there. Everyone loves Pumpkins. ; )

Happy 15 Years, Cathy!

ReplyDeleteDebbir,
DeleteThe blog name adjustment feels right.

Maybe this is why I had trouble getting in today. I'm inclined to say stick with what/who you are -- but adding Maywen's to the title as you did here -- that keeps the Salty Pumpkin but identifies you.
ReplyDeleteJeanie,
DeleteThe name adjustment feels good, a happy path to follow.

I love Salty Pumpkin - I didn't realize it was popular across the internet. Maywyn's Salty Pumpkin Studio is nice, too.
ReplyDeleteBecki,
DeleteSalty Pumpkin, I believe, increased in popularity in the 13 years I’ve had this blog’s name. You can’t search the Internet for Salty Pumpkin and miss my blog.

That must explain why I couldn't leave a comment on your previous post - it must have been because you were doing admin-like-things in the background.
ReplyDeleteI decided last year that I would do with my blog what they recommend you do with income tax papers and keep them seven years. I didn't get rid of all the posts over seven years old but I did go through them and distill them down. Now I have a note on the calendar to do it again at the end of this year. That way it's only one year I'm dealing with and not doing an entire blog overhaul. I removed pretty much all the links from the clean-up year because I figured that many of them were out of date.
