Creating Habits To Delight

Last spring, for no particular reason, stopping at WAGS (West Addison General Store) to buy a small bag of potato chips and a soda, became a to do thing on my way over to Upstate New York.

Now, if I don’t stop and buy them, then it is like having phantom where-are-they pain like after a tooth is pulled. Habits, big or small, I feel, are fascinating.

Thinking now. What habit would be fun to create?
In the early days, blogging was a habit. I had to post or else it would nag me all day. Nowadays, posting is a blended well part of what I do.

Habit Suggestions:
  • Put glasses in the same 3 places
  • Keep shoe horn hanging near the coat closet or from the door handle
  • Stretch while water is boiling any time water is boiling
  • Set a fun alarm sound for afternoon tea
  • Each Friday, designate an hour for whining about everything. Set a timer.
  • Have a weekly No Buy Day
  • Have a weekly dance afternoon
  • Write down a new idea every day

  1. I wish I was creative enough for a new idea every day.

    1. Marie,
The simpler the idea, the easier it is. Not all ideas have to be big or complicated. If I take too long, there’s always the idea to write down: Get up off this chair. 🤣

  2. I'll have to think about what habits I'd like to renew. Most of the time, it's breaking them!

    1. Jeanie,
Good luck breaking habits that aren’t useful!
I broke my spoonful of peanut butter habit by not buying peanut butter. 🤣

  3. I love the Friday whining date idea! Not sure an hour would be long enough though.
I don't need to set an alarm for afternoon tea (or in my case, coffee) because the RC arrives at my sewing room door with cup in hand at 2 o'clock every afternoon.

    1. Maryanne,
What a treasure to have a live alarm bring tea! Setting a timer on the whining hour is the key to its success. 😂

  4. I like your idea of creating habits to delight. Lately, I've been trying to remember to walk or jog on the spot while waiting for the microwave to finish, or water to boil. Exercise snacks, I've heard it called.
