A Saturday summery view

Visitor numbers here have been low. (yesterday’s post deleted). The last few days, the amount of visitors has decreased to a few dozen. When compared to the age of this blog, that’s sad.

The amount of comments, however, has always remained steady with highs and lows, but never a very high count.

In summary, this is not a successful blog. It isn’t a bad blog though. There is a difference. I don’t network as much since depression is heavier. I expected a decrease in readers, but not the low recorded now.

About popularity

Popularity in this style of blogging, IMHO, will always have genuine folks in the audience. Those out looking to build a brand or followers, in general, will not stick around. That makes sense.

What seems to attract visitors in blogging:

Major city base like NYC

Big house, land, pets, posting often, as in puts the work into blogging good content

Signs of wealth and/or fame

Travel news

Follows high end bloggers

Educational content, tutorials, giveaways

What do you think?

  1. I've never blogged with a view towards popularity...my blog is mainly for me to keep track of my 'creatings' and having a few comments is a bonus that I don't really expect. I have settled in to pretty much a 3x/week posting schedule which seems to suit me at the present time. Who knows, maybe I will lessen the frequency over time, but for now it seems to work best. I've had the occasional giveaway but now that the postage costs are so high I don't go that route. It always surprised me though that there were lots of people that would suddenly chime in if they thought they might be able to win something and then they'd never be heard from again. I supposedly have over 200 followers and haven't a clue who they are or even if they ever look at my blog. I have a 'core' of regulars (like yourself) who visit and let me know they're there.

    1. Maryanne,
The core visitors are a best friend circle, very much appreciated.
Being pleased with whatever nook one fits in, I feel, is better than being popular.

  2. Blog visits and comments on my blog have decreased over the years, but I'm okay with that. There is a regular list who read and often comment, and I'm happy. Writing my blog is fun for me.

    1. Lorrie,
Reading your blog is fun as well. Your kitchen redo, ( years ago?), your retirement, the boating excursions, all are very neat to read about.

  3. I think that much of the content is like that but there are also plenty that I read that are simply slice of life blogs. Or mix-and-match (that's me.) A combo of family and personal life and activities, sometimes more thoughtful, deep-digging posts. When I started, I used to post much more often. That has decreased for me, or at least is erratic. Two or three posts a week is about all I can handle! I don't know if it is a matter of time or a matter of the number of blogs I follow, but I pretty much can't read "daily posts." I try, but I don't see how people do it. (Especially those who are still working!) It takes a lot of time. Maybe I'm just slowing down!
