For a good day, appointment anxiety coping

Lazy day for me as I minimize appointment anxiety by doing much of nothing. I have tried other methods. This one of being good to myself works best. I think when my mind is taken off busy, the rest mode smooths over the stress.

A yearly, important mammogram* is not a high anxiety test. An appointment of any kind is the anxiety source.I have no fear of hospitals, doctors and such. I suspect past negative experiences set off my anxiety alarm. I don’t need to analyze it. Managing ways around it are good enough.

The ambient temperature is much lower today, forecast 75°F (23°C). Being outdoors will be comfortable enough to enjoy a nice ice tea and sketching later.

I’m also thinking taco salad for dinner will be nice as well. It is putting taco filling in a baking dish, mixing in crumbled taco shells and melting cheese over the top.

Have a wonderful day

As it happens, I had to reschedule my test. Ambushed by a sudden intense anxiety attack, I had to say I can’t. I then went home. I wish I stayed to ride it out. It has been so long since I experienced one that intense, I automatically did what the doctor told me years ago, to remove myself from the location/situation. Anxiety is like that, there are attacks that you know when it is time to make the decision to take care of yourself no matter how embarrassing or disruptive to others.

  1. I hope your appt. goes well. Your taco salad sounds really good. I'll have to give it a try. I have all the ingredients for that. There's just something about the dandelions. A pretty picture you have shared.

    1. Sheri,
I had to switch to a menu turns out due to stomach upset. My appointment has been rescheduled for in a few weeks. I’m feeling much better today.

  2. I agree, even if an appointment is an easy one there is always anxiety. 75° is perfect weather. I have been eating taco salads myself lately. Have a nice day.

    1. A nice day to you, Nicole
Produce shopping tomorrow for the taco salad I had to miss yesterday.
I’m dreaming of lettuce and tomatoes.

  3. I find that we have to manage so much in life. Between anxiety, illness, being on the edge. But we just keep at it -- and it usually works!

    1. Jeanie,
And to think as kids, we loved obstacle courses. I guess we just have to look at advanced years with the same fun attitude. 🤣

  4. Maywyn I am with you on doctor visits and medical tests...they just seem to breed anxiety - necessary but not a favorite way to spend the day. Hope you have a lovely weekend. Hugs!

    1. Hugs Debbie, a great weekend to you
I made it all the way to the x-ray machine when an intense anxiety attack out of nowhere made me say can’t right now. I went home and rescheduled.

  5. You are not alone in feeling this way, Maywyn, as it often hapens with me and no just for a medical appointment. It could be anything where I am uncertain of the outcome that causes my stomach to do flip-flops. Good idea on holding off on the taco salad until you were feeling better.

    1. Beatrice,
As a kid, getting a polio shot, the room reeked of alcohol. It took years to not be afraid of an injection. Once I looked at it going into my skin, Poof! The fear was gone. Not all fears are that easy to handle.

  6. Episodes of anxiety seem to have no real rhyme nor reason to them sometimes. I'm sorry you had a bad time of it.

    1. Maryanne,
Anxiety feels like a curse at times like that, showing up at the very appointment that took months to get.
