What did I do all day

Philosophically, I spent my time immersed in thoughts focusing on reality’s impact on the range of experiences my life has accumulated.

I recently looked at a truck, briefly thinking, how do so many people afford them. They are very expensive to buy and run. Then I pondered longer, why don’t I have a truck? Can I afford a truck someday? How would it feel to own and drive my very own truck? Do I really want a black one or the metallic gray with lots of chrome details? Is having a truck a realistic goal?

I drove a big 4x4 Dodge Ram Charger, that’s like a pick-up truck enclosed, back in the late 1970s. I have driven it on roads as well as in deep Texas mud. Trucks feel safe and commanding. Practical at my age to have a truck? No, it is silly.

What isn’t silly is thinking out of the box. In Vermont there are a lot of trucks and SUVs on the road. They create a landscape with different vibe than an inner city of sedans.

I also had a nice nap this afternoon.

  1. Beautiful photo. ❤️ I am glad you had a nice nap. Although it has been a few decades since I have been to Vermont, I absolutely love Vermont and have fond memories.

    1. Linda,
Those pansies are the prettiest this year. I hope to save some of the seeds for next year.
Northern New England, I feel, has the same forest vibe. The cities take on a regional atmosphere.

  2. I had a ford ranger for 25 years. It got me to Oregon, Alaska, back to Oregon and to Maine. I sold it before I moved to Ireland. It was the best vehicle I ever owned. Over here you get free travel if you're 66 or older, I love it, just sit back and leave the driving to the bus driver. You can also take the train with your travel pass. Enjoy the day.

    1. Bill,
Your truck travel days sounds wonderful!
Free train rides, I’d be gone everyday.

  3. I have issues with trucks for people who don't need them for work or for hobbies that require massive hauling (like woodworking, maybe). That includes our kid! And black trucks are the worst on the highway. They go super fast, well beyond any speed limit and often drive dangerously, like they own the road and you should know it! (This is based on a years-long study from our highway trips to the lake and Detroit!) But now, they just seem extraordinarily expensive.

  4. Jeanie,
That is interesting about black trucks. I am glad I like the gray snd chrome style.
I’m not sure what percentage of truck owners here need one for work. The stats on that aren’t recorded. SUVs are in the light truck category. Nothing there as well.
A pick- up nowadays can easily go over $50 thousand US dollars new.

  5. In my younger days on the ranch I drove a 16 wheeler. I have always had a truck along with a car. I have an older dodge truck. Personally I would never pay what they want for a new truck. Or a new car for that matter. It's nice to dream about it though. Have a nice day.

    1. Nicole,
A 16 wheeler! Wow! That must have been a lot of fun, mostly. Ranching is hard work.

  6. The only truck I've driven is the old grain truck my dad had and I think I started at about age 14 or so. Good experience driving a 'standard'...not that I'd want one now.

    1. Maryanne,
Driving a truck at any age is powerful, IMHO.
