A Saturday in August 2026

Big clouds, breezy, hazy blue horizons, today in this just about northern part of Vermont and Upstate New York, it is a day to be out before the a storm passes through the Champlain Valley.

After a short trip to Middlebury, I decide to take pictures of boats on Lake Champlain from Fort Frederic at the Crown Point State Historic Site.  I haven’t been out much this summer not wanting to drive far. Well, scrap the usual by the lake photo taking.

Today and tomorrow is a special event for The French & Indian War Reenactment  from 9:30 AM to 4:40 PM, Free admission and parking.

I briefly stopped at the visitor’s center before deciding the heat and I aren’t compatible on this day. The drive was nice though. I did take a few pictures.

On the way home, I passed stopping at two yard sales. The thought of bringing anything home when I need to get rid of so much, is giving me the discipline I will never have with buying cannolis. 😎

Hope your weekend is going well

Thank you for stopping by

Background voices on video

During a water study, taking a video of Lake Champlain, in the background right in the middle of my video, from somewhere in the parking lot, a voice is recorded. Think not wanted in the video.

I do not expect people to be silent if they happen to see a person taking a video. It is a public place. I can mute the background voices in editing.

The problem is editing the film reveals there is more talking than what I thought at the time. A big section would have to be deleted. That is sad because I like the video images. I can’t upload the video as it is. Another video will have to be made.

I now appreciate the value of using a script, a plan of what I want to film.

Know what is to be recorded, the weather, the hour, the location. Take a few videos. Write down notes. Lesson learned.

Summer Photographs: A Country Road

Summer doesn’t feel like summer without two lane country roads, bordered by cornfields, to travel down.

Route 17 is such a road. The 40.409 miles (65.032km) stretches from Route 100 in Waitsfield to west and ending in Addison at the border of Upstate NewYork by Lake Champlain. The scenery from out of the Green Mountains to the flat land of the Champlain Valley is spectacular. There is a vibe if traveling through a part of New England’s geological history.
