Cleaning Fans, Filters & Grills

Cleaning fans, room air filters, air conditioner grills and reusable filters regularly are important tasks
that I am a big fan of.
Weekly I clean my fans.

Follow manufacturer's instructions

Unplugging the fan before taking the cage apart is the first step I follow. It also helps me to place screws in a container like large laundry detergent bottle cap, yogurt cup or small jar. I wipe dry thoroughly, before putting the fan back together.

When I miss a fan cleaning  my allergies remind me to get it done.

  1. I don’t do my fans that often. Must reconsider that one.

  2. We clean ours too but not that often. I think I'm allergic to dust as much as I am pollen. But it sure is nice to be inside my house today! Enjoy your weekend!

  3. Sometimes I wish we still had those types of fans but we now have the tower type (3 of them in fact) which I like but they are nigh onto impossible to clean. Why manufacturers can't make them so they're take-apart-able is beyond me. I do my best with a stiff brush and the vacuum but it certainly isn't ideal.

  4. We're charcoal people -- fortunately don't have to worry on the fans!

  5. Marie,
Dust sticks to plastic and metal. Over time, the air is over blowing dust. For some reason, there's always a lot of dust in my apartment.

    Diane,
I rotate main fan with 3 others so the motors don't get too hot, have a rest. Enjoy the indoors!

    Maryanne,
I agree! Tower fans are wretched to clean. I did cleaned a tower fan once. I haven't bought another one since.

    Jeanie,
Charcoal filters, the housing grill can collect dust like fans do.

  7. William,
    You must have central air.

  8. Weekly fan cleaning. I'm seriously impressed. I've cleaned a couple of box fans (over the years) - each one one time. Feeling like I just made a huge confession...

  9. Becki,
Dust is plentiful here since the renovation years ago. It is weird.
