Blog Thinking & Rethinking

Is Open

Are we ever sure why our lives surprise us? For no reason I think of, I decide to bring back The Salty Pumpkin Cafe. Analyzing everything isn't necessary. In a few days, I might put it back to the private setting. Who knows.

What isn't returning just yet is the new blog set up. Why? There's the questions of it being a good idea, and  my blog comfort zone.

Comfort. I've become more aware than I was in the past. It is disturbing when you hear subjects you talk about as the idea of the person you spoke to. Coincidence? Poor memory? What do you say to a person like that? Nothing. I limit contact with negative people.

Good idea? The World, I believe, is in a negative phase. Bloggers, in this style, are about what life is meant to be on a peaceful level. When negativity spills over into the blog space, then good ideas need rethinking. We can't manage who reads our blog when it is public.

We can manage what we post about. For example, I wrote a blog post about summer travel plans. After rethinking the subject, I deleted the post. I can blog about my travels, if any, when I return home.

I also realize that a new blog elsewhere will be tracked down using keywords. Folks that comment on this blog will be searched to see where they are posting comments. Now, making believe I have a new blog...

In summary, there are a lot of cracks browsers and websites can fill in to increase security for users.
For example, websites that save and publish your blog posts on their website under the guise of archive should be banned.

  1. I only began blogging when I retired in 2003 and we knew no one, and lived very very rural-I liked the platforms I was on back then-my favorite one was called Multiply-most have not heard of it but it was set up before it's time really. I loved it there. then the owner sold it off to another country that bought it for it's selling feature and got rid of the blogging part of it. many of my friends were totally devastated
after that most all of my friends went to facebook-as it was brand new-and a few others left social media.
I never cared for blogger all that much, but looking at what is out there now for me this was the best one.
It is true we need to be careful what we publish to the world-I deleted my primary blog here that combined my multiply and yahoo 360 blog information-doing that I lost allot of photos and information. they say it is still out there some where cyber space lol
I won't go into the politics but most of these platforms attack conservative thinking facebook is one of them-so I mostly go there to read now and post very little.
Its a choice if we want to put ourselves out on the web for all to see-Now I just mostly share art, visit artists, and share recipes. It is something to think about though-and I am thinking most do not
    sorry for the long post

  2. I like your blog name Salty Pumpkin Studio, but I also like the name Salty Pumpkin Cafe. So, let us know what you decide, and share the link. Sometimes links don't always work, but we'll try. I think the "pumpkin" in your name drew me to your site, as Fall is my favorite season. And today, we got to see a little of you. It's nice to see our blog friends once in awhile. I don't share pics of myself that often, but from time to time I will. ; )

  3. Kathy,
Your posts never feel long. It is like magic. Your writing flows well.
I lost readers by changing my blog name so much. Instead of doing that, I start another blog, and leave it private. I read that on Blogger you can have 100 blogs per account. I will not even get close to that.

  4. Sheri,
    Your blog name is beautiful.

To see blogs, click on the View complete profile. The blogs the blogger posts are listed there as links.

Thinking of a blog name took years of fiddling around with words of things I like. Pumpkins, pinecones, acorns, canoes, cabins, etc., there's only so much that can fit in a title.
    :)

  5. I find it very hard to blog these days. People seem too busy to read and I am spending more time reading than writing and taking photos.

  6. Loree,
You raise a good point, reading versus time writing.
This year I have seen comments decrease here and elswhere, but not everywhere. My visitor counts decreased as well.
I think podcast popularity might be where folks are spending their time; and, maybe at the balloon people's place, Tik Tok.

  8. I have increased my followers since the pandemic. I'm guessing that people were looking around for friendly places to read and not get in the middle of an unwanted debate. I also increased my own blog reading places, same reason.

I have trouble reading some scripts, though, and have reluctantly given up on some which use curly, handwriting type of fonts. Just can't make them out very well. Likewise white writing on colored ground, can't follow for more than a paragraph.

  9. Liz,
That's good to know about fonts.
Fancy curly script fonts aren't easy to read.

During the height if the pandemic, I noticed bloggers were more active. I guess it slowed down here because folks were out the door again. I also made the mistake of changing the blog address to match the title.

  10. Interesting. My followers and comments have increased tremendously over the past three to four years. Probably because there are fewer blogs to follow? Or that those who crave community are commenting and visiting? I can only manage two or three posts a week. I write long (well, they get long with the pix) and I read a lot of blogs. Reading and commenting has a direct reflection on visits to my blog as well. And I will say I have made many in-person and online genuine friendships through the blog, which I value.

I'm pretty careful about making an announcement if I'm gone for a month! But on the whole, there are far bigger fish to fry that I for scammers and I'm pretty alert to what's out there.

  11. Jeanie,
Your blog is a real treat to read. I believe you are right about a blog activity reflection. Folks that comment do appear to generate the same.

I have a skill for finding blogs I like where the blogger never or rarely returns a comment. I don't mind because their style is their choice.
The blogs that bother me are the snobs, ones with many comments from regular readers who don't return comments to their regular blog reader blogs, except for blogs with status.

  12. I cut down on the frequency of my writing blog before the pandemic, but with the exception of one break early on in Covid, I've kept up the daily photo blog.

  13. William,
Your daily photo blog has been excellent entertainment during the pandemic, and always.
