Bluejay, Blogging, Social Media & Observations

Bluejay Observatory

A bluejay will perch atop the unused clothesline pole, check out the bird seed area, then fly down to snack.  The bluejay, seen through the patio window, is a sight that makes me smile. Thus far, it is the only bird I've seen perch there.

Blogging.
Searching for an easy to use blog template is on going. The search can be so frustrating, limiting the amount of time for me is a must.
A few I have previewed appear to require posting on an HTML type coded page. The set ups are nothing like the Blogger Compose view page. I think I would have decided on a template by now if they were as easy to use as Blogger.
As a result, I am looking into online website design courses. If you have recommendations, then please share.

Social media.
The way we keep in touch, methinks social media works for people numbers, big families, groups, but for individuals friends and family, personal contact through email and texts are better. Having the time set aside, I feel, is important.
Facebook doesn't have a fan here. There is no delete option in Edit photo, and none that I've found to stop Facebook's photo synch feature. The solution is to leave Facebook.

Observations.
~ Almost every idea I have sends me to an Internet search. I miss the library research section. No screen can replace the feel of a real book.
~ I haven't been to Central Park in New York City since the summer of 1968.
~ Week-end lists that I post, I might attempt 1 to 3 items. I have yet to sing to anything other than food I'm preparing and TV commercials.
~ Breaking ideas down to the simplest point can open them to even better ideas.
~ Wanting to learn something is a losing lottery ticket, if no action is taken to learn.

  1. good morning, we really enjoy our visiting birds too they look forward to the seeds I put out for them as day break on the deck.
I have never cared for facebook at all-I only stay there for a few groups, and since we don't use smart phones and texting-I can use their messenger service when I need to-which is like a text I guess.
good luck on your search, blogger is easy enough for me to figure out- enjoy your first day of february

  2. I’ve sung to a herd of cattle who did respond and came to listen. Amazing really. It’s not as if the singing was good!

  3. Kathy,
Good to know I am not alone disliking Facebook. While it can be a way of keeping touch, it needs to remember, it is not family or a friend or welcome to intrude on the party.

  4. Oh Marie, singing to cows is fantastic! What a happy thing to do. I am sure they were delighted.
I would pay to see the video.

  5. I love your blue jay. Aren't they the best? I don't see them often at the feeder but when I do I'm always happy!

I don't know about all the photo issues in FB (what's photo synch?) but if I post a photo I didn't mean to, I just copy the text of the post (if necessary), delete the post and repost, copying the text if I saved it and using another photo or not. It's pretty easy unless you are doing a post with a lot of pix.

  6. Beautiful bluejay! I saw a cardinal this morning (and yesterday) in our driveway! They are around fairly often. We also have a couple eagles that visit a nearby tower. Sometimes when I'm inside I can hear the call and know one is out there.
I do use Facebook, and have experienced the very best and the very worst of it. The Messenger part of it is good for communicating with a few friends, which I prefer to texting because I'm on my laptop a lot. I also like seeing some memories from previous years. Reminds me of a few things I'd forgotten.

  7. I've always wanted to go to Central Park in New York City. I don't do much traveling, but that's one place that I would love to visit. Yes, I agree, personal communication comes from e-mails. I am loving your Wintery snowy side bars on your blog lately.

    Happy February!

  8. Since I do not use any form of social media, other than blogging, I agree with your views on that subject and much prefer contact through phone calls, emails and texts as well as handwritten notes and cards. Unfortunately, the USPS with twice yearly rising postal rates will cause me to limit snail-mail correspondences a little bit. Every search is online for me now, but I do recall using library resources and the encyclopedias my parents had purchased when there was no such thing as the Internet. The desire to learn definitely has to be followed up with action. Good luck on the ongoing blog template search. I have thought of making a change, but never followed up.

  9. My parents had a small platform outside their second floor den. They'd open a window in the morning, spread some peanuts out, and the jays would come get them.

Beautiful memory. Your parents sound like lovely kind people.

There are 5 bluejays that show up now that I share my walnut pieces.
I suspect they might like a piece of date. Maybe once a week I'll share.

  11. Beatrice,
The postage increase is much appreciated. Handwritten notes are a treasure to receive. I hope you don't have to cut back much.

    Sheri,
Snow on bare branches has a clean organized vibe. I also find it enjoyable to see. Strange, but in a way, it reminds me of spring.

  12. Mary,
Facebbok Messenger is nice to use. It has a better look than my Android text program, and is easier to use. I think it works even when I deactivate my FB account.
Cardinals, there are 4 males and a couple of females visiting my deck. I rarely, until this year, see more than one pair.

Nuts on a feeder will attract bluejays.
Synch, matched up is when you click to add a photo on Facebook, your phone photos are right there to chose. Other websites, you have to give permission to open your photo files, and chose from there. That's how I understand it.

  14. I saw blue jays early in the week. I had forgotten how loud is their call. On the ground, right by the window, one startled me every time it CAWed! Your observations are noted. I love being able to do research on the internet, but I am so glad I had the experience of doing slower research at the library once upon a time.

  15. Becki,
The beautiful old oak ambiance of the local library was transformed into a lounge. Comfy, but not learning, exploring, education inspiring. The Internet took over all that.
