Earthquakes

Prayers for Turkey & Syria earthquake victims

For almost 20 years I have watched the USGS ( United States Geological Survey) earthquake map.

earthquake.usgs.gov

I have not seen such a cluster of strong earthquakes, 2 over 7.0, multiple 6.0+ and 5.0+. There hasn't been a time when a circle hasn't been in red, meaning a recent report, until just now.

I could be wrong. Maybe a Huge earthquake cluster happened before that I missed, didn't read about, catch on to.

Take into consideration the science news Earth's core may have stopped spinning, slows down, and /or is reversing. Then think about this Huge Earth is shaking and keeps on event. Cause for concern for Earth is, I feel, reasonable.

Update, 5:48 PM EDT. Quick count shows over 30 earthquakes in the area.

Why isn't this a Special Report, major headlines?

What am I missing?

  1. I'm so sorry to hear about this. I will have to check the news regarding it.
Earthquakes are so scary. Haven't experienced any in all the areas I've lived, and that is a relief.

    A happy week to you.

  4. Marie,
It is heart breaking. People outdoors in winter, hurt, trying to find love ones, waiting for help, while the earthquake after shocks keep going. It must feel like an apocalypse.

  6. I too wonder why more is covered about this. It seems the news is so lopsided the days. I rarely feel it is worth watching.

  7. That is an interest map, May. I chose the Terrain and Satellite layers to get a better idea of what exactly I'm looking at. Earthquakes in Turkey was a major news story on the evening news. I can't imagine how frightening an earthquake that has cause so much destruction must be. People were trying to move away from dangerous areas, but how on earth would anyone know where to move to? The loss of life is astounding. Praying for the people there.
