Once Upon a Flower

The Old Bleeding Heart 2010

Many years ago, before the 2014 renovation, the landscape where I live had a lot of established plantings. None were saved and replanted. The landscape was completely done over.

The bleeding heart in the photograph was huge, over 4 feet across. Many pieces had been given to folks over the years. None of the plants I saved survived.

None of the posts that I wrote on blogcation survived. The last, a scheduled post, I deleted this morning. None of those posts felt right to me.
A change in diet, too much rain, gloomy goings on can all contribute to a slump developing. My creative and physical energy is low, (often difficult not to nap). I'm not sure why that is. I try to ignore it; and I like napping anyway. I suspect, however, going through old photo files touches me with a tinge of depression, woe is me, sad. Most of all though, Wow! I take  a lot of autumn pictures.

Nasturtium 2011
Favorite flower pictures are the ones taken inside the plantings where the light reflects blueish on the leaves. I think that setting gives the flower a solitary dramatic vibe.

White Tulip & Dew
I went through a stage circa 2010, when dew fascinated me. At the time I was also trying to learn how to paint liquid drops in realism. None of my results looked quite wet enough.

The pink roses were captured in delicate morning light, perfect for the pink blooms.

I will be posting slowly in no particular direction. Whatever the subject, I aim to have it be an interesting one.

  1. I'm sorry you're feeling down right now. The flower photos you took are very nice, and brought a smile to my face. When you mentioned dew, I thought about how a few drops of water on a flower looks even prettier, and it still fascinates me to look at. The first picture is lovely as ever. I hope you have better days ahead, and know that you mean a lot to your blog friends. : )

  3. Sheri,
The seasonal changes can make things go weird.
Cutting down on coffee can also make a person feel slow and sleepy. Keep going will eventually leave it all behind.

    Have a great weekend!

  5. lovely post, I have been very slow moving too, my tooth hurting still is hot helping-found out I got an infection somehow during the cavity fill after he did allot of drilling. as I get older in my 70's now, I do end up taking a nap-it's refreshing some days.

  7. Oh Kathy,
I am so sorry your dental procedure didn't go well. Those infections can be brutal on a person's spirit.
    I'd get another dentist.

  8. Liz,
I hope you are feeling better.
Thunderstorms arrived today just as I was about to go outdoors to weed a flower bed. I need the fresh air and exercise.

  9. Bleeding heart has always been a favourite here.
Love the photo of the roses with the light reflecting on/through them.

  10. Beautiful close ups.

I've been dealing with that for the last two and a half months.

  11. Maryanne,
The light on the pink roses was a lucky photo, right place at the right time.

  12. William,
Reading other blogs, the blues seem to be like a cold going around. I wonder if the Belarus horror and all the bad news in the world are at play. I know the political scene in America is depressing, so many people supporting a criminal.

  13. I am so sorry for your blues it is so hard to get out them once they start.
I have a sweet friend who has napped for years. She always says not a wimpy nap either I get in my pjs and under the covers for 2 hours. I love that about her.
I have stopped watching the news for a while anyway. I watch a bit of local and then turn it off. We eat on the porch now days so the tv rarely goes on.
I do hope you are feeling better soon.

  15. It is true that looking through old photos especially of those no longer in our lives can stir up rather sad feelings as it does with me. Often, I wonder WHY I even keep updating photo albums that no one sees although they will when I am no longer around to update. I do send photos to family because today most folks only keep them on their phones. There are many framed family photos in our apt and it makes me happy to see those.

Sorry to read that none of your blogcation posts felt right, but the flowers posted in this one was a beautiful substitute. I agree that looking down into the plant creates interesting imagery. I always liked doing that with photos of Irises and Day Lillies when we had a flower garden,

Congrats on the weight loss you posted about in a prior post. I am acticely working on that goal with slow success, but its ongoing.

  16. Cathy,
Having a good napping skill, I believe, can improve the quality of life. Our bodies know what it knows.

    Feeling better every day

  17. Marie,
Macro/close up photos are a favorite to take and look at. The light, I think, has to be just right more so than farther away photos.

  18. Beatrice,
So true. Not editing old files is a good idea. Sending copies off to family and friends is as well.

There were pictures I had of love ones they didn't have. Now they cherish what I sent.
