Day 202, Week 29 of July 2023

Summer Rain
8"x6" watercolor, M. Flannery

Two beautiful days of summer weather this week has been refreshing. Today, we are back to thunderstorms and rain.

Determination. I sat down to do a watercolor. It took me almost an hour to find my supplies. With no particular subject in mind, thinking of the program, "Landscape Artist of the Year," I went with the mood du jour...Rain. (above photo) It is good to finish a painting, even if it is small.

I discovered that taking photos of the artwork, before it dries, makes places that need tweaking stand out. The actual watercolor doesn't look as grainy in person as it does in the photo. Paper texture seems to be missed in person viewing.

Have a weekend of bright discovery!

Try a new ice cream flavor

Pray for Peace

  1. when I was creating journal pages for the art journal journey link up-I would take photos for a better view-mistakes would really show up on the photos that I didn't notice-wonder why that was--oh well I love your painting-and your new poem too hugs

  2. Kathy,
It does feel strange to see more detail in a photo than looking right at the painting. I think the photos have more contrast that makes it easier to see.

    Have a fun weekend!

  7. One of the reasons I post photos of my landscape works in progress on my blog is to see areas that stand out as being 'off' - areas that I don't tend to notice when I'm working on them. Sometimes I change them to B&W on my computer and that's often an eye-opener too.

  8. Maryanne,
Thank you for the tip on black and white.
I forgot that can bring out details. I will use that to look at artwork.

  9. I love the idea to daydream a lovely cottage. I often think of cottages and how women decorate their sweet cottage homes. This house in the mountains reminds me of a cottage, cause it's very small, but quaint. Thank you for praying for peace always. We need it very much in the world.

  10. Sheri,
Drawing a dream house floor plan is fun.
There's a cottage on the Maine coast with a view of the water through a large picture window that I see in magazine ads. I prefer multi-pane windows, but a view like that needs to be open.

I'd like to do the same watercolor on a larger size paper.
