Pondering the Subject of Clash

Mother's favorite colors were various shades of pink and orange, together, the brighter, the better. One might call the combination loud.

In my fifth or sixth grade year, she made a cotton semi flared (poofy) skirt of swirling flowers in those colors...for me. I did actually wear it to school, feeling if on a florist's trash pile, I could almost disappear.

The clash.

I'm not much of a loud bright colorful clothes person. I sense that I was born with the wonderful LLBean vibe of Earth colors with a hazy summer tone.

Pink and orange don't clash. The taste for color in clothes between my mother and I did.

Looking back, how often does what you want in life clash with reality? Your choices versus your love ones? Common sense collide with passion?

On a positive note, not all clashes are negative events. Extreme sports, for example. The only time I will fly through the sky is on a plane, no matter how much fun hang gliding might be.

What clashes have you had?

Comments

  1. I've always liked bright colors to wear, and neutrals just didn't do it for me. I do like classic black and white to wear also. I haven't had too many clashes in my life, cause I think the people around me knew I wasn't into fads and such, and just knew that I liked what I liked. Your pink flowers are gorgeous. Interesting topic, and appreciate your creativeness.

  3. Sheri,
    Black and white are classy.

In my teens, I did wear bright yellow a few times.
Turquoise is as bright as my clothes get except for last winter, I bought a red sweater.

  4. Kathy,
    Good point.
Parents were more difficult to deal with than them dealing with us.

  5. When I saw the movie Hello Dolly with my mom, Barbra Streisand wore a red and purple dress. My mother hated that dress. I thought it looked fine. (Maybe she wasn't familiar with the color wheel.) Clashes -- too many to mention but rarely when colors are concerned!

  6. Jeanie,
I just read about your trip being rescheduled. A clash of the unwelcome sort when vacations don't go as planned.

I don't think there are two colors in existence that my mother would say they don't match. I remember her telling me a tiny green stem in a floral pattern meant my green blouse matched. lol

  7. Love the pinks and rose colours but rarely wear them. Love them in nature however. Hope you have a great day!

  8. Some would say that, in nature, God made nothing that clashed. So, using that yardstick to measure by, that theoretically should mean that colours in clothing and decor shouldn't clash. And taking that thought further - it must mean that it comes right down to the eye of the beholder. And that, my friend, is the extent of my brain power for now!
