Thoughts On Gloomy

The Summer of 2023
Digital photograph

As soon as I saw the  photograph above, I felt a request for a gloomy caption. The Summer of 2023 feels apt to me. This rainy season has shaded the wider part of emotions that run throughout the day and night.

Contrast. A happy object against an unhappy gray and gloomy sky.
It is fun though, to see the rain flying off the pinwheel when it rains.

I haven't been anywhere of note. No photo excursions. No picnics. No plein air painting. Eating outdoors, sitting on the deck, limping some, passing through the thick curtains of humidity has replaced my ambitious list of summery things to do. I looked to August to be better weather. Thus far,  it is a July replay.

Not to give up! An artist can paint sunny weather! Now there's an idea.

  1. It's too hot to cook in the Summer, so I try to cook early. Most days, Summertime is spent indoors. I washed my car today, and it was really hot out. Looking forward to Fall patiently. ; ) Do you have the dollar stores nearby? I hear they already have their Fall stuff out. That might be fun for you. I'm looking forward to browsing. ; )

  3. Sheri,
I've seen fall stuff on the shelves already. I am not looking forward to another summer ending before it felt like it began. Last year it was heat waves. This years it has been rain.

  4. Jan,
I may have to paint only sunny landscapes after all the rain this summer.:)

  5. While everything is green and lush from the rain and humidity my little gardens failed which makes me so sad no fresh tomatoes this year.
Lucky you can at least paint a lovely summer.
A beautiful morning but we are going into the rain by evening once again

  6. Cathy,
That is so sad not to have your garden produce tomatoes.
I hope there is a farmer's market in your area.

  7. It hasn't been as enjoyable a summer as others have been. I sit out back with our dog Luna sometimes but the mosquitoes are wicked and I don't always want to use bug spray if I won't be out a while. Ron didn't plant a garden, they were getting smaller every year anyway, but our son-in-law grew some tomatoes in buckets and have been sharing so that's been very nice.

  9. You made me smile, Latane!
    Okay, and now I'm laughing.
I guess painting a painting must be done.

  10. Mary,
The mosquitoes here in Vergennes have tested positive for West Nile virus. I spray with bug repellent when I go out. I hope others do as well.

  11. Its been a strange summer here too....very hot then very wet and warm. I look at the news and am thankful we haven't had the extreme heat or any fires. It seems not just Europe but elsewhere too. Lets hope for a more appealing Autumn. Best wishes, your light shines through the humid gloom around you my friend.

  12. Lisa,
After all the rain, the fall colors should be wonderful.
    Have a fantastic artful weekend

  13. You are right, Pumpkin. Sometimes we have to create our own sunny weather!

  14. Funny (in the odd sense, not the laughter sense) that you have received so much rain when other parts of the country (at least here in Canada) are having extreme drought conditions. Feast or famine with the weather these days.
And yes, painting a summer scene sounds like a perfect antidote!

  15. So true, Jenny
I have a mind to make a miniature model of a sand castle to remind me of the beach.

  16. Maryanne,
Weird weather patterns are, I fear, Earth's attitude from now on. Of course, that might be our answer to asking Mother Nature...What did I ever do to you?

  17. I don't have an opinion of this summer as it has been so abnormal for me. I am both surprised and glad to think that in little over a month we'll be entering autumn - my most favorite season. This week I feel great. I hope come mid-October (when I'm finished with my last treatment) I'll have some umph in me to enjoy the beauty. :)

  18. Becki,
    Prayers continue for your recovery

Autumn isn't far away. When the temperatures outdoors cool, I see sparrows stopping by where the winter bird seed goes. Funny how they remember where to go.
