The Enjoyable Excursion
Have your heard somebody say that they don't like to plan ahead because when they do something always goes wrong? The future looks grim with an attitude like that.
Others are set on serendipity. That route does have a flare of adventure, but it may not be the best way to maximize your potential for an enjoyable excursion.
I love the word, excursion, sounds classy, chic, a mellow way to travel out and about. Autumn is excursion city! Being outdoors to view the foliage in the Northern Hemisphere is the season to be jolly, not grumpy. Sure curmudgeon is a cute word as well, but who likes to ride along with a bah humbug vibe? Not many is my guess.
Yankee Magazine, 10 Places to Visit in New England in Fall
No plans to travel this fall? Staying home doesn't mean you can't enjoy the autumn. There are windows to look out, photographs to view, decorations to do, hot toddies to create, fluffy slippers to wear, shawls for your shoulders while you sit in a cozy reading spot reading a Stephen King novel.
My cousin is a serendipity kind of person and it drives me nuts because you can never count on it. "We're going to try to get to the lake." I'm getting really tired of "going to try" or "thinking about it!"
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous excursions and I look forward to one or two similar ones when our color turns!
Jeanie,
ReplyDeleteOne can hope they change some day.
My mother was the one that harped on things going wrong when she planned ahead. It is amazing we went anywhere.
Foliage this season from all the rain, is suppose to be spectacular. Michigan is as gorgeous as any in New England.
Even though we have a long summer, I still love the changes. And it is changing some here already and I am so excited to think about new trails to hike. We used to travel farther away but I'm happy to just do more day trips or short trips. We drove up into the Northeast quite a few times and it was gorgeous with the Fall colors!
ReplyDeleteDiane,
ReplyDeleteY'all are in a perfect location for travel to the mountains of Tennessee or Georgia to see foliage.
A local trail has been upgraded this last year. New trails are good when so many are farther away in the mountains.
We are hoping for good weather so we can have some picnics and hikes for our excursions this fall. It has been such a wet year.
ReplyDeleteMarie,
ReplyDeleteYour picnics are inspiring.
One my list this fall is to have hot beef stew in a thermos. Last year you posted of photo of your stew when you two stopped along a trail. That is the way to have beef stew.
Autumn is one of my favourite seasons.
ReplyDeleteI do like the three images on your post.
All the best Jan
Jan,
ReplyDeleteThis year, a photo log will be a must to keep track of where and when.
I'm looking forward to the colors changing. Our cooler night temps are letting us know autumn is right around the corner.
ReplyDeleteLook at the Vermont Autumns you have! Simply beautiful. The colors you get! I will check out the Vermont link you shared now, thanks!

Sheri,
ReplyDeleteThere are places in Vermont that take one's breath away they are so stunning.
I so want to drive up to New England this year. We just may do it.
ReplyDeleteDebra,
ReplyDeleteA view atop White Face Mountain in Upstate New York is gorgeous as well.
This long trip we're on is mostly a spontaneous one - we rarely plan more than a few days in advance and have no reservations we have to meet beyond a few essentials. It's fun, but planning is also fun. Leaves are beginning to turn in Quebec, where we are now, and it's lovely to see.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your autumn days.
