Pumpkin' Chunkin', Recipes, Alpaca Socks & Canvas

The Pumpkin Chunkin' Festival in Stowe, Vermont was 1 October. Watch your calendars for 2024.

Consider creating you own family or local pumpkin event.

Start the season with a bunch of pumpkin recipes added to your recipe files. I'm intrigued by the ingredients of cranberries, rice and pumpkin. What kind of cassarole would they make? Will mushrooms throw off the flavors? Lots to think about when cooking season begins.

Weather is a factor in what I select for dinner. The colder it gets, the hardier the meals I want like beef stew, seriously sharp homemade macaroni and cheese, sauerbraten, and turkey with tons of stuffing and cranberry sauce.

The same goes for clothes. I want socks, comfy ones that I can wear with boots and shoes. Alpaca is the wool I am going for because it doesn't have the lanolin that sheeps's wool has, an allergen issue.
My online search for alpaca winter socks lands me at the link below for Warrior Alpaca socks, made in America and Peru.

  4. Diane,
After seeing your hiking photo, the Eastern coral snake on the trail, dancing on the patio, not the woods, might be fun. :)

  6. I hadn’t realized the process involved in painting over another piece of art. Thank you for sharing the information!

  7. Marie,
The canvas stretcher was made around 2003. I think there are 2 or 3 paintings started on it. Thankfully, most are all smooth enough to not need sanding.

I think the New Haven River painting is perfect for that canvas.

  8. Made beef stew the other day. Tonight ham and scalloped potatoes. I love pumpkin soup with apples and wish I had the recipe. Our local restaurant serves it. Pumpkin cupcakes for sure soon along with pie. Janice

  9. Janice,
    Your food sounds good.
    Scalloped potatoes are so good.
Baked squash yesterday. Made the soup today.

  10. The socks intrigued me and when I checked the link I was pleasantly surprised at the price. Buying yarn (just regular sock yarn) adds up to pretty much that cost, at least for the big feet in our family. I know the price for the alpaca ones would probably almost double to get them there though so I won't be ordering any.
And - does picking a mug rug design count as a mug cozy?

  13. Maryanne,
The price of alpaca goods is a shock. The socks at Warrior are priced well. For hiking socks that aren't worn every day, I'll buy a pair.

Mug rug and cozy count. They make great gifts.

There are good recipes on that website. It saved me from hunting down links to other recipes.

  15. Jeanie,
The slow cooker/crock pot awaits! Soups and stews reign this winter.

  16. Carol,
I notice since my loss of a lot of taste ability after last year's covid booster, that pumpkin has more flavor than acorn and butternut squash. Blue hubbard to try next

    Hugs
