When Things Change

3 Quart Cassarole
All I see in the photo is the dinning table I have yet to finish sanding. During the deepest part of a depression episode, there will be reminders scattered about that pile up unnoticed until energy rises. Pressing my mind to think positive, the shiny new cassarole creates a smile on my face.

Here's the story. While shopping, everything I put in my basket, I put back. Nothing entertained my Spirit of Shop well enough. I was feeling a bit down about it as I wondered how did it happen. I am a good shopper, on the cheap side, but quality first.

I realized working on goals, setting a budget, and down sizing stuff plays into what style of shopper I am. There's no fun in a good buy if I don't need it. I don't donate things to make space for more things. I donate to let out the waist of the things I already have.

All in all, I am grateful I no longer shop aimlessly. Change can be good. I now have a perfect size pan for soups is a bonus.

What style shopper are you?

  1. i shop mostly on line. when i am in a store, the item really has to "move" me. if i really want something, i know it right away and i buy it, no matter the cost!! i shop at home goods now and again. that is one of the only stores i shop in. i hope your depression is better, i think i remember that it is!!

  2. Debbie,
Going shopping when you know what you want is powerful!
I find lists help me, when I remember to look at them. :)

  3. I buy little, only to replace essentials. My husband on the other hand…

  4. Marie,
Replacing essentials is a nice shopping trip.
My next essential is a box grater. My flat one sided hand held is nice, but not handy when doing a lot of vegetables.

  6. I hate physical shopping, only do it when vital. That's true of all my buying, come to think of it.I buy it replace what's needed, but don't like browsing or looking for ideas. I'm no fun on a shopping trip!

  7. Liz,
Browsing is like a form of meditation that's probably a throw back to human olden days forgaging for food. We know that lay of the shopping land like they are landscapes.

  9. I shop for what we need as I like to keep my kitchen organized. I do have a bit of a penchant for pretty creamers. I usually know what I want when I go shopping and often return home without when I can't find what I want. I use the principle "If it's not a WOW, it's a NO! I do enjoy browsing sometimes, without buying anything.

  10. Lorrie,

Your no Wow, it's a No is fantastic!
Butter dishes are my favorite to look for, but I rarely buy one.

  11. I hate shopping. I want in and out of stores as fast as possible, if I go at all. Curb side pickup is one good thing that came out of Covid and now I don't have to grocery shop. The only other store I go to regularly is Canadian Tire and they have a great online option to search the items you want and then take note of the aisle number they're in. Saves wandering around the store in search of something you need. Most of my other shopping comes from online.

  12. Maryanne,
The online information giving the aisle the item is in the store makes life feel much happier. I love that feature.
I prefer to buy online and pick up at store so I don't make a trip for something that's out of stock.

  14. Carol,
There's no room to freeze too much, so I donated my big soup pot. The 3 quart is perfect.

    Have a fun Weekend!

  15. These are thoughtful observations. I don't buy things I don't need unless I really love them. Then I figure that serves a need, albeit a slightly skewed one. Other than that, I'm good. I wish people would stop giving me presents -- or at least presents that take up space (not food or books or things I might want.) I don't need another cute thing -- and yet it's hard for people to stop giving.

  16. Jeanie,
You have so many cute things, I can see why you are gifted more. Those folks are like a puppy bringing you a toy. They want to share your joy.

  17. That is a beautiful dish. Typically, I am a hunter shopper. I have specific goals when shopping and if I can't find what I'm looking for I get out. Which is probably why I loathe store incentive programs for getting people to come back and shop (like Kohl's cash). I don't want the cash! Just give me decent prices and I will be a happy, loyal shopper. It's a ridiculous game we play (and that stores play with us). I also won't shop in a crowded store.
I don't do Black Friday. All that said, in the end, I am not immune to sometimes buying things I don't need. I will often return such items. I'm still a work in progress...

  18. Becki,
The cash back programs and Black Friday are look in case useful tools. Otherwise, your shopping style is good to follow.
