Monday Morning Pondering

Nasturtium

A thought. If I stare at a color in the morning, then what hue will help stimulate my brain to wake up and get going? I think a warm color like orange is a no brainer as it is a cheery color.

Browsing old photographs, I find the nasturtium in sunlight to be a good place to start. A peppery tasting plant, I feel it has the lift that can help me.
Noting the sunshine in the photo factors in, summer is 115 days away. Better to focus on Spring that is only 22 days away.

Every morning this week, Monday to Friday, I will spend a few minutes looking at the orange flower. I will write down my energy levels and what I did that day. On Saturday, I will post my findings.

No doubt there is a study somewhere doing a similar exercise experiment. I want my results. Maybe this week I'll find a study to read.

Is there a color that perks you up?

  1. That's a good question -- I guess the answer is a lot of colors, as long as they are bright and happy. I do love nasturtiums!

    1. Jeanie, I think the sunshine is a bigger factor than I first thought. It is sunny here this morning.
It will be interesting to see how the photo works on a bad weather morning.

  2. Interesting thing to think about, May. I love yellow and orange, but it's not a color I normally work with, or wear, and oddly, they are not colors I typically look for when planting flowers. I tend to be more naturally drawn to cooler shades. If I do plant yellow or orange flowers, I always look for something blue or purple to pair with them. I have no idea how I may actually be affected by colors. It will be good to read the results of your experiment.

    1. Becki,
Your colors are what brings you the best of your day.

So far, I feel more determination to take control over the flow of my day. Now that the sunshine has greatly diminished, I still feel cheery. Daily notes will help weed out the bits that aren't helpful.

  3. I love bright colours but haven't given much thought to how they might affect my mood. I don't wear bright colours because I don't feel comfortable in them. Having said that, trying to find clothes that fit my 5'9" (36" inseam) frame in colours other than black and navy isn't easy.

    1. Maryanne,
Neutral Earth colors blue, brown and greens are a way of adding color to a wardrobe.
I started with a floral, nothing wild, muted pastel-ish. My eye still brighten when I see bright colors, but I rarely chose clothes in bright hues.
