Flowers in August

At Cape Cod Massachusetts near Marshfield, the pictured type of roses here, were everywhere. We call them Rock Roses. I forget their other names.

They are very hardy, even here in Vermont. The rose hips are large with a lovely dark coral color.

Do you have a favorite summer flower?

The chill in the morning air has convinced me to not resist the end of summer drawing closer. Instead, I daydream about autumn being spectacular. Soup Season is a delightful time of year. I sort of look forward to feeling soft socks on my feet. Even seeing Halloween decorations no longer makes me cringe that they are out so early.

Have a cringeless fantastic week!

    1. Janice,
I think the heat we had slowed down the flowers. The recent cooler temperatures has allowed most of the flowers in the ground to bloom better than they have all summer.

  2. I think those are Rosa Rugosa roses, and they (or something similar) grow in our area, too. I'm trying to ignore the ending of summer, but rain and cooler temperatures are making it difficult. I'd have a hard time choosing a favourite summer flower, but for wildflowers I love the chicory with its blue flowers that bloom alongside the roads and in vacant lots everywhere.

    1. Lorrie,
I found out that a setting for tracking is the reason I show up anonymous, depending on the browser I'm using.

Chicory is a favorite also for me. I thought they bloom a lot in August. The last few years around this area of Vermont, chicory has been blooming more than a month earlier.

  4. I know what you mean, I have been wanting to put socks on my feet too. I just bought some cute raccoon socks when I visited So Cal. Those are the pretties flowers, and what a bold color! Well, I think you can guess what my favorite Summer flower is.....Roses! But I do love the smell of jasmine when I pass by it also.

    Have a splendid week.

    1. Marie,,
      Yes, all wildflowers are beautiful.
Around this area of Vermont, I don't see much purple until the fall when the asters bloom.
      A wonderful week to you!

  6. I think my summer favorites are zinnias and hydrangeas. But I love them all. Temps are down here, too. It has been the oddest summer I can remember, weather-wise.

    1. Jeanie,
You are right, this is an odd summer.
Recent lower temperatures have brought the ground flowers out to bloom better than they have all summer. It is really weird.
