A Daily Sketch
A sketch a day requires a sketch book handy, out in the open handy. The pens and pencils attached is a good idea that prevents hunting for them aka a window of opportunity to find something else to do/become distracted. Once a sketch routine is established, daily drawing is easier.
Portraits. Deciding to focus, for now, on faces is the practice I need. The sketch above, (done from a photo of moi), covers half a 9x12 inch sketchbook page. Eventually, I hope to paint my portrait.
Drawing is all about practice/sketching.
I love drawing, and drawings. Have you drawn yourself from life, with a two mirror setup? I find the bathroom is the best place, with mirrors on adjacent walls, so you draw the reflection of your reflection, a true image.
ReplyDeleteLiz,
ReplyDeleteMirror, photos and in very dim light. Charcoal erasure is a favorite. Painting will be a challenge. I've been putting it off for years.
Good suggestion about sketching ~ daily practice is something I don't do ~ sigh ~

Carol,
ReplyDeleteDetermination to start is all it takes. And having the supplies handy. :)
Good one.
ReplyDeleteLove your self portrait, May. I always enjoy your art processes and look forward to seeing more.

This is very good. You are so right-drawing well is all about practice. And anyone can draw well!
ReplyDeleteI smiled when I saw that sketch! Great one!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debra
ReplyDeleteThank you, Marie
I took photos of facial expressions to practice drawing. Fun times.
Looks good.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rest of Friday and have a good weekend too.
All the best Jan
That's a fun self-portrait! Good for you for practicing every day. It's the only way to keep up one's skills, be it in writing, piano playing, or drawing.
ReplyDeleteA good weekend to you, Jan
ReplyDeleteThank you
Lorrie,
ReplyDeleteThank you
Practice creates a comforting sense of accomplishment.
Yes leaving the sketchbook out with pens handy helps me to check in with a daily sketch as well. Good project with working on faces. I think they are such a great challenge. Hope you have a lovely weekend. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Debbie
ReplyDeleteHandy needs less of me being lazy. Daily sketch missed yesterday because I kept forgetting to get the sketckbook out of the ottoman storage.
You sketch nicely. I had a painting done of me many many years ago, and when she presented it to me, one of the ears wasn't painted. I was told later that she was deaf in one ear, so I just left it alone, and didn't mention it. I have it to this day. I think it's a very special painting.

Sheri,
ReplyDeleteNice to have a portrait.
Confusing why her ear condition translates to your portrait. It does add an unusual story to the painting.
I like your sketch, and hope you do paint your own portrait!!
ReplyDeleteI rarely sketch, but, did actually try a small one of myself a little while back. I didn't keep it though. Recently got some nice acrylic paper though, would like to paint again soon.

Mary,
ReplyDeleteI hope you do paint soon.
I look forward to seeing your artwork.
