A Daily Sketch

A sketch a day requires a sketch book handy, out in the open handy.  The pens and pencils attached is a good idea that prevents hunting for them aka a window of opportunity to find something else to do/become distracted. Once a sketch routine is established, daily drawing is easier.

Portraits. Deciding to focus, for now, on faces is the practice I need. The sketch above, (done from a photo of moi), covers half a 9x12 inch sketchbook page. Eventually, I hope to paint my portrait.

Drawing is all about practice/sketching.

  1. I love drawing, and drawings. Have you drawn yourself from life, with a two mirror setup? I find the bathroom is the best place, with mirrors on adjacent walls, so you draw the reflection of your reflection, a true image.

  2. Liz,
Mirror, photos and in very dim light. Charcoal erasure is a favorite. Painting will be a challenge. I've been putting it off for years.

  14. Yes leaving the sketchbook out with pens handy helps me to check in with a daily sketch as well. Good project with working on faces. I think they are such a great challenge. Hope you have a lovely weekend. Hugs!

Handy needs less of me being lazy. Daily sketch missed yesterday because I kept forgetting to get the sketckbook out of the ottoman storage.

  16. You sketch nicely. I had a painting done of me many many years ago, and when she presented it to me, one of the ears wasn't painted. I was told later that she was deaf in one ear, so I just left it alone, and didn't mention it. I have it to this day. I think it's a very special painting.

  17. Sheri,
    Nice to have a portrait.
Confusing why her ear condition translates to your portrait. It does add an unusual story to the painting.

  18. I like your sketch, and hope you do paint your own portrait!!
I rarely sketch, but, did actually try a small one of myself a little while back. I didn't keep it though. Recently got some nice acrylic paper though, would like to paint again soon.
