A Contrast, Plastic vs Grass
Otter Creek Falls 2023 |
There are days when the air feels custom made. Muggy this morning, but pleasant to be outdoors. At 4..5 billion years old, Earth gets it right more often than not.
All the while, masses of plastic choke our oceans. I notice more and more too much of the food I eat is in a plastic bag, container or wrapped in plastic. For wax paper, I have to search to make sure it is genuine waxed paper. A large part of my food sources just leans down and chews grass.
This font is named, Bad Script. It has that vintage postcard vibe I like.

For this summer of celebrations, I think I will to reject foods wrapped or sealed in plastic. That will eliminate near 100% procrocessed sweets. It will not rule out creamies (sort of Vermont for ice cream cones in general). The prices will rule out creamies.
A horror of the plan, cheese! Almost all cheese is wrapped in plastic. Cottage cheese is in a plastic container. I will have to learn how to make my own cheese, yogurt, and butter. It will be fun.
That's something to think about.
Perhaps you can find a cheese vendor that cuts off the block and uses waxed or deli paper. We used to have one here; no more. You're right -- it's a huge problem.
ReplyDeleteI like this font.
Good luck with the no packaging concept ~ Enjoy what you can eat.

I think change, when it comes to plastics, must begin at the manufacturing level. Yes, they can ban plastic bags but that doesn't go far enough to even make a dent in what we're forced to buy. Governments must step in and start legislating change and force manufacturers to comply. Wonder if we'll live long enough to see it happen.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I recently had a similar discussion about plastic though we aren’t ready to do anything about it yet. Sad I know!
ReplyDeleteHappy Summer to you!

Jeanie,
ReplyDeleteGood idea!
I will be surprised if there isn't such a cheese vendor in Vermont. Most delis have limited block cheese they slice. I'll ask mine be wrapped in paper. I hope I don't run into food regulations that require plastic.
Thank you, Carol
ReplyDeleteI think I will need a bit of luck.
Maryanne,
ReplyDeleteVery good point. The plastic grocery ban isn't near enough to make a good dent in the problem. Now we have thicker plastic bags to deal with.
Happy Summer, Sheri
ReplyDeleteStarting begins with small changes over time. I might change to laundry detergent in a box.
Hey Maywyn - what a gorgeous photo of Otter Creek Falls. Is this close to where you live? Such a wonderful, peaceful scene. Have a super week. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteDebbie,
ReplyDeleteThe park is within walking distance. Lots of folks stop there.
Hugs
A lovely scene.
ReplyDeleteWilliam,
ReplyDeleteIt was a perfect morning.
Trying to eliminate plastic is SO HARD! I hate what it does to our oceans and world, and to our bodies. Let us know how it goes with making cheese!
ReplyDeleteLorrie,
ReplyDeleteThe instructions online for making cheese are easier than I expected. A week shelf life is disappointing. I hope there a recipe where the cheese keeps longer.
