Art In Autumn Redux
Autumn in Vermont 2019 |
I was undecided about going on an foliage excursion this year until I took a look at what I have posted in the past. This year's tours will range from walking to going into the mountains. Weather permitting.
What do I want from autumn is the theme. An important part of the season is not just the foliage. It is also the many people that gather with the common desire to embrace the beauty of Nature while harvesting the experience that with others, they build the autumnal community of leaf peepers. People smile at each other. License plates from all over. Pumpkins everywhere. Apples galore. And, touching my heart, are some of the best fall jackets in the world.
Vermont, New England, Upstate New York, the whole Northeast region is pure magic in the fall.

Notes for Autumn Art Excursions
2. Use a perspective frame to focus on composition.
3. Of the same scenes and subjects, draw ink, pencil, watercolor and color pencil sketches.
4. Set a schedule for hours of the day and specific locations.
5. Seek out the best spider web on the planet, but don't get too close.
Are you planning an autumn excursion?

You're right about the leaf-peeper community. The same happens here in Michigan, which I suspect is much like your area. I like your list. I usually go peeping around the lake and hope to this year, although October is getting more full than I wish.(All the things I put off all summer) I like it best when I go with Rick because he drives and I can better peep!
ReplyDeleteJeanie,
ReplyDeleteBeing a passenger is a dream foliage tour. Coordinating the day isn't easy though. Happy Autumn!
Autumn is indeed a great time for photos in the east!
ReplyDeleteThank you Traveller
ReplyDeleteHave a good week!
Marie,
ReplyDeleteFor sure.
I notice that my photo files are much larger during the fall months.
Have a great week!
I have told you a few times how much I love New England. I have very fond memories of a trip my parents took me on when I was in my mid-twenties. We went to the top of Mount Washington, and to Plymouth. I saw the ocean for the first time. It was absolutely glorious every place we went. Seems like the leaves are always the prettiest in New England!
ReplyDeleteautumn is my favorite time of the year and i often miss out on a fall foliage excursion!! planning for it and timing it can be difficult!! we have some beautiful spots right here in new jersey and even some of them i miss. i must be more mindful this year and get more pictures than i have in the past!!
ReplyDeletei like your notes!!
Debra,
ReplyDeleteSeeing the ocean for the first time is a magnificent life event.
Mount Washington is on my bucket list.
Debbie,
ReplyDeleteNortheast New Jersey going up to Upstate New York, and along the Hudson River does have lovely foliage scenery. :)
OUr autumn excursion will be involving an airplane and I expect we will get back just in time to see the fall colours.
ReplyDeleteYour state is well-known for having beautiful fall foliage. It is a pleasure to take photos at this time. I have not been up north during the fall but just driving between Nashville and Atlanta in late October early November there is also lovely fall colors to see. I like driving off the freeway through the Chattahoochee forest in northwest Georgia; it is colorful and peaceful then.
ReplyDeleteWe have a ton of folks who gather to see the leaves up North here in Michigan as well as the tunnel of trees. Its a road that is tree lined on both sides for 21 miles. A beautful sight like in your area. Janice
ReplyDeleteAutumn is a wonderful and beautiful season especially here in New England ~ no special travel plans but do know I will go to the local apple orchard and surrounding towns to take some photos ~ Also enjoy some of the goodies like apple cider donuts and apple pie delights ~ always a treat!
ReplyDeleteWishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

ReplyDeleteI hope y'all have a really nice time.
Vagabonde,
ReplyDeleteThe woods in the South are beautiful. I've seen photos that are breath taking, especially the hilly places with hollows and rolling hills.
Thank you for your wonderful post about the quilt exhibit honoring the late John Lewis
Janice,
ReplyDeleteThe 21 miles in Michigan sounds like a stunning place to drive through. The Kancamagus Highway in New Hampshire is the sight to not miss here in New England.
Carol,
ReplyDeleteAn autumn isn't autumn without a visit to an apple orchard.
It is a favorite thing to do in the fall.
A lot of orchards are not doing pick your own this year the late frost we got killed a lot of the apple blossoms. I love the fall colors and try to get out for a hike

Thankfully, now that we live in New England we can enjoy the change of season from summer to autumn without the need to drive very far. That said, our native home state of New Jersey also had beautiful fall foliage. Your suggestions for enjoying the season were all good ones and maybe one fall day we will be able to meet in person as we are “neighbors.”
ReplyDeleteOh Maywyn such gorgeous photos of autumn in New England. I have always wanted to visit that particular part of the world in fall. Bet the traffic really picks up that time of the year too. Good list of things to do during this season of the year. Looks like one worth repeating every year :)! Hugs P.S. sorry to read that your home was torn down where you lived as a young child. Take care and have a good holiday weekend.
ReplyDeleteAutumn is a wonderful time of year.
ReplyDeleteEddie and I do like getting out and about as much as we can to enjoy it's wonderful bounty and colours.
All the best Jan
Cathy,
ReplyDeleteA sad the apples. I hope some orchards will have pick your own hours on a limited schedule. They need the income. Maybe there will be a buy a pie or apple crisp day instead.
Beatrice,
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed, I hope to visit Massachusetts this fall.
There are so many bloggers in the area, maybe one year we can have a group walk somewhere that's easy, flat, has facilities and a nearby coffee shop. :)
Debbie,
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of traffic, in Pomfret and Woodstock, there are roads that are so high in leaf peeper traffic, they have closed two popular roads to residents only.
I've seen photos of in Vermont bumper to bumper parking along country roads especially on the long weekend mid October.
Jan,
ReplyDeleteY'all have some very gorgeous forest in the UK, magical places. A foliage tour there would be a dream come true.
Yes, I've seen your Autumns, they are magical. Northern California has some pretty Autumns as well. Oh, I love that last picture of the road and the Autumn trees, it's beautfiul.

Sheri,
ReplyDeleteA drive down country roads in autumn can be breath taking.
When the leaves fall over the road, whispering, Ahhh, enhances the magic.
I will likely do a fall trip.

ReplyDeleteWilliam,
That is good news. I look forward to your blog photos.
