Thoughts About the Breaking Point
Breaking Point, Merriam Webster
noun ~ The point at which a person gives way under stress.
noun ~ The point at which a person gives way under stress.
Everyone has a breaking point.
There are, I believe, 3 types of breaking points. The high and low strength, and, then there's the selective breaking point that can't be relied on from one event to another.
Why is that?
In some cases, a person can be trained to endure. In other cases, life unchosen, trains us to be strong, weak or meh.
At present, there is a lot going on in the World that makes me wonder where the breaking point will be for all the craziness going on. There are real human men with the power to, that have threatened to use nuclear weapons. (Note, to date only one woman might be eventually be in that group.)
I've touched on this subject in past posts. Old folks can be like this, repetative, even in the same conversation. Every time I clean out email addresses, change passwords, take a look at my online presence, I compare where I am to where the World is; and here I go with another post about it.
Not to brag, but I feel the World is more depressed than I am at the moment. I'm guessing, in 2024, people might turn around and realize that common sense is a safer way to live. Less strain, longer life, no breaking point to deal with.
Welcome to December 2023
The world is a scary place right now. Hopefully we will eventually see good win out over evil but I hope no one uses nuclear weapons in the meantime.
ReplyDeleteI pray you are right about 2024. So much heartache and death in the news.
ReplyDeleteJulie,
ReplyDeleteYour red lentil soup looks fantastic.
Good winning more often than evil does would be a nice start for the world to heal.
Marie,
ReplyDeleteIt has been a few years now, I think, since many of us bloggers and commenters have reduced the amount of news we read and watch because of all the turmoil, the violence. I do hope 2024 is better.
I try to stay informed I watch the local news in the morning.
ReplyDeleteThen the TV radio internet news is off for the rest of the day. At 6 we watch local then world news and again it is off. We also change around who we listen to word news.
I am in charge of my little world day to day and until they drop the bomb or come marching down the driveway I am in charge.Do I think it is horrid what is going on yes I do. But I choose to try and make what time I have joyful.
Just my opinion
Cathy
I hope you are right, I can't imagine a world crazier than the one we are in right now.
ReplyDeleteCathy,
ReplyDeleteYou have a good attitude about the news.
I read, sometimes watch the nightly news or check out what YouTube has for news. They have a wider range of news outlets around the world for a wider perspective.
Bill,
ReplyDeleteIn the 1950s, Friday noon air raid drills felt pretty crazy. Different times then with the clean up after WW II was still going on.
The word is a frightening place right now and that's one of the main reasons I pretty much try to ignore the news. I know I have an obligation (if you want to call it that) to be informed but at what cost? Common sense seems to be sadly lacking on pretty much all levels whether it be government, the news, or in individuals. All I can do is try to make my own area of influence a little better.
ReplyDeleteMaryanne,
ReplyDeleteCommon sense does sadly seem to be lacking across the board.
I think the support in America for the past president is on the level of a serious pandemic of mental illness.
Wow, your red lentil soup looks absolutely amazing!
ReplyDeleteI've recently realized I haven't been watching the news most of this past year. Still, I catch snippets here and there. It seems I'm mostly up to date on some things, but every once in a while I hear about something that surprises me. Since total ignorance isn't the best bliss to be had, I'm thinking of trying to watch the news once a week. I figure that will keep me pretty much up to date, and may keep me from worrying too much that there is nothing I can really do about the state of affairs of most of the world. I can pray, of course, but I don't need a nightly dose of world news to do that.
ReplyDeleteBecki,
ReplyDeleteLocal PBS stations might have a state news weekly wrap up type show. The one in Vermont is interesting the way they discuss what's going on.
Meet the Press and the PBS News Hour are easier to watch than the traditional news programs.
