The Golden Hour Watercolor Update

Dead Creek East Branch
The first challenge for me is getting the color perspective right. Instead of sketching first, I made a few light pencil lines, and started painting right away. Not my best moment because the scale is way off.

In situations like this, I will finish without a lot of detail. using the painting as practice. I will then start over on another sheet of watercolor paper.

Thus far, I'm so digusted with my lack of paying attention, I haven't touched the painting with a brush in two days.

I did finish a major project today, furniture issue. That turned out well. And, I cleaned up the mess afterwards. No piles of stuff waiting for me to decide where to put it.
Anyway, I will be painting later today. Another photo will probably appear below.

  3. I don't know about you but when I start painting after a drought of inactivity I may as well just toss the first one away or find a way to turn it into bookmarks. I think you'll be fine in the end and probably far better than any of us could pull off. But it will only be so well done as YOU think you want it to be when you finish. (Or maybe that's just me...)

  4. Thank you , Marie
I look forward to more as well. lol
I almost started this morning, but decided to enjoy my chai tea first. If I get to painting, then the tea gets cold.

  5. Thank you, Kathy

The most difficult color on a monitor to achieve, I think, is the pale almond to off white that matches the true color of the watercolor paper. It looks pinkish in the photo. None of the changes I tried worked.

  6. Jeanie,
You have a good point. Bookmarks are nice made from watercolors. :)

  7. I understand about getting the colors right-it's not easy for me. But you know the old saying about value-if you get that right, the colors are secondary. For me, value is the hardest part. I'm happy you aren't afraid to paint from a photo-you get so many opinions about that. I love using photos. By the way-I really like what you've painted. You can change what you paint from a photo-so what you have on the paper looks really nice to me.

  8. Debra,
Values are to me are like pulling the throw over my head when the movie scary part is on screen. lol
I know if I read and put in the effort, then painting may not have as many ooopses to deal with.

    Have a great week!
