Connections Commentary
Making sense?
If being outdoors refreshes your spirit, helps you feel less depressed, gives you a clearer outlook on life, brightens your day, makes you feel at peace, then consider adding indoors viewing of outdoor material via books and videos to your love of the outdoors.
The last blog post here provides a few links to YouTube videos that I have watched in full. No browse and post what's looks good for the subject there going on there.
There is a caution, however, on what videos to select for viewing.
What I have noticed is that YouTube either doesn't have or there are so few outdoor camping videos done by women they aren't suggested. Thus, I did a couple of YouTube searches for women camping solo.
Both results are not impressive. Up front, pardon the pun, it appears that highlighting a woman's breasts is a video must have. After that, butts, tight clothing and suggestive poses. Oh, and none of the women in those results are homely. They look like super models.
I did a similar YouTube search: men camping solo.
In Conclusion, my opinions as a not a prude person:
Sex sells is a no brainer.
The women posting videos highlighting their bodies isn't as much about camping as it is to generate ad income and/or fame. I will not watch their videos.
It is disappointing that online soft porn has polluted the Internet, especially in advertising.
I think YouTube would be better if they stop posting soft porn ads, and select better ads for the outdoorsy wilderness camping videos.
I have just recently gotten hooked on watching youtube. I watch for about a half hour though...and that's all. I have several women who camp and travel that I love to watch and see where they are now. I think it's good for young girls to have good role models and they inspire me too. I've enjoyed this post!
ReplyDeleteDiane,
ReplyDeleteI will seek out good on subject camping videos by women. There has to be some out there.
Myself, given my age and the health of society, I wouldn't go camping alone unless I was heavily armed after attending an outdoor survival course.
The forever double standard.
ReplyDeleteSpot on, Hena
ReplyDeleteI still have hope websites will put genuine effort into showing respectful advertising.
May, I've stumbled upon some of those videos. Yes, it's all for the making of some money. I do wonder how profitable these videos are. I would LOVE to watch honest videos of women camping, and doing outdoors activities. I sometimes enjoy watching videos of women who've outfitted a van for living in or traveling across the country in. I don't mind watching videos like this with men as the main character, but honestly, I think women are more inspiring. Probably because it's a bit unexpected.
ReplyDeleteWho knew that camping would be sexist. When are women going to learn not to let their sex be exploited like that and to realize that they're not setting a good example for our younger generation.
ReplyDeleteI'm back! lol I watched a video by Carolyn's RV life last night and she was in Arizona. It was very good and I thought you might like it. I've only seen a couple of her videos so don't know what the others are like. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteBecki,
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice to see an even gender representation in outdoor activity videos. The volume of men over women out in the wild is strange, understandable, but strange.
A man outdoors, IMHO, doesn't feel as unsafe as a woman alone in the wilderness. Women have to be cautious of all animals, humans included. Men don't have that burden as much as women do.
Maryanne,
ReplyDeleteGood point, spot on!
