Solar Eclipse 8 April 2024

The solar eclipse from here in northwestern Vermont was a magical event. The total dark part didn't last long enough.

I used a glasses' filter over an old cell phone lens. The photograph is of the eclipse about half way through. None of the other photos show the Moon or any part of the phases.

Did you have a chance to see the eclipse?

  1. Yes, here I watched the sun reduced to a tiny sliver before it started increasing again. The clouds came in at the end, but we saw quite a bit first.

It was magical when the lights came on and it was dark out.

  2. No, I didn't see the eclipse. This is a cool picture, and it's nice that you are into the moon and sun and stars, all things sky related. ; )

    Have a terrific week.

    1. Sheri,
Two of the planets, Jupiter (left) and Venus (right) also became brighter in the sky when the sun was totally covered.
      Jupiter was huge.

    1. Marie,
I'm glad y'all saw the eclipse.
I was not brave to try my camera or bother with learning what filter to use.

  6. Yes! We were right on the center line of totality. It's fun reading other bloggers who got to experience it.

    1. That's great Becki!

Seeing Jupiter was a real treat as well. I think it is the largest star light I've seen in the sky,.

    1. Kathy,
Sorry you didn't have the glasses.
The part that is the best, is the dark totality minute or two. With the glasses, the eclipse was a tiny dot.

  8. I just posted my eclipse day. We were at 99 percent but there was still plenty of light, even though it did darken a lot and the streetlights came on!

  9. Here it was pretty much a non-event. It got a little gloomy (just like a typical cloudy day) here but that was about it. We didn't have the glasses so we didn't worry about watching it.

    1. Maryanne,
The dark part is the best part.
My old cell phone camera with the filter over it from the glasses, is a big disappointment there aren't better photos.
