On the Art of Freaking Out

Freaking out, I believe, is a moment of emotional panic that can blur common sense. I also believe it happens in clusters than can diminish in strength.

The clusters are made up of various sizes and durations of freaking out.  On the good side, as they go on, one’s awareness can increase as the identification of what stupid looks like becomes sharper as well as kicking in quicker. One can learn to handle freaking out with great skill.

To all those (of us) out there on the learning curve of self control during a freaking out cluster or a one time event, please know you are not stupid or emotionally weak. You are not alone. I myself have been there more times than my ability to cope with the shame allows me to admit. (I haven’t kept count.) 😎😂

  2. I've freaked out unnecessarily more times that I care to remember. And I always regret it. Thank you for making it seem... I don't know.... normal, perhaps.

    1. Becki,
Yes, it is normal. Normal to have the practice on becoming stronger as well.
      🤣

  3. The only time I get freaked out is when I see a certain snake. Janice

  4. I think we've all been there at one time or another. Like Janice, I freak with snakes. But usually that's about it, unless I totally overload myself. And I know better!

    1. Jeanie,
Snakes are reasonable for freak outs.
I’m glad they only bother me when they are too close. Distance is a must.
Funny, sitting on a chair in the woods many years ago taking in nature, I see movement in the thick leaf cover. As it gets closer, I see a baby brown snake. It looks up at me from a few yards away. We look at each other, it moves, stops, looks. After a few minutes, it just slithered past me as if I wasn’t there. 😂

  5. It always helps to know one is not alone. I know there is a wonderful quote from C.S. Lewis about realizing that someone else shares the same feelings or experience.
I looked it up: "Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: 'What! You too? I thought I was the only one!'"
Have a lovely weekend my friend!

    1. Debra,
So true. I agree, it does always help to not feel alone.
I read a question on Instagram from a man asking if anyone else cools off by sticking one foot out from the sheets. It stunned me there are people like me that do that. 🤣 Rattled my brain it did.

  6. I must admit I chuckled when I read your comment about the foot thing - my RC does that, whereas I need my feet covered. Good thing we're not all the same!
I don't know what causes a freak out for me, but would have to say that I thoroughly hate (hate, I tell you) centipedes. Anything that has all those little tiny legs has to be a freak of nature and thus deserving of a fit from me. I know - I need to get a life.
